6
Purpose of Accreditation
  • Accountability To the public and the profession
  • Ensuring High Quality Programs
  • Program Improvement
  • Adherence to Standards

7
Accreditation Objective
  • The accreditation system is a series of
activities which, over time, provide a clear
picture of an institutionhistory, how it makes
changes, how it stays current with the field
(both standards and the schools they serve).

8
Accreditation Activities
  • Ongoing Data Gathering Analysis
  • Biennial Report
  • Program Assessment
  • Site Visit
  • Follow Up

9
Ongoing Data Gathering and Analysis
  • Data Collection Process is a regular, routine
    part of the intern program
  • Expectation is that all intern programs are
making programmatic improvements based on solid
    data
  • Good programs use multiple sources of data to
make programmatic decisions. No single bullet
    decisions.

10
Ongoing Data Gathering and Analysis
  • Data on the effectiveness of candidates and the
program in contributing to that effectiveness is
a key focus of the revised accreditation system.
  • Data collection alone is not sufficient
Analysis and Improvements are all key to the
    revised system.

11
Biennial Reports
  • Focus on candidate outcomes.
  • Each institution will submit a report for each
    approved program.
  • Each report will contain aggregated data,
    analysis, and program modification
  • Two sections of the report Afor each program
(see above) and Bfor overall trends and action
    plan submitted by the Dean.

12
Program Assessment
  • Part I narrative describing current program,
how it meets the Program Standards and any
new/additional information to place program in
    context.
  • Part II current course syllabi
  • Part III assessments used to measure candidate
    competence, including rubrics, training
    information and calibration activities.

13
Site Visit
  • Year 6
  • The visit focuses on Common Standards, areas of
question from Program Assessment and confirmation
of the Preliminary Report of Findings. (beginning
    in 2009-10)
  • Team of trained Board of Institutional Reviewers.
The team will range from 3-10 individuals.

14
Site Visit
  • The team will use the information from both the
Biennial Reports and the Program Assessment in
addition to the interviews with employers,
graduates, candidates and faculty to make a
    decision regarding each Common Standard.
  • CTC staff will attend each review as
    facilitators.
  • Institutions will receive a draft site visit
report at the end of the site visit.

15
Site Visits
  • The visits for 08-09 will include the program
    review at the site visit.
  • Reviewed against the Revised Common Standards!
  • Beginning in 09-10, the Program Assessment is
completed prior to the site visit.

16
Accreditation Follow Up
  • Any issues, concerns, questions or follow-up to
the site visit will be reported on in the year
    following the visit.
  • Information from each activity (Biennial Report,
Program Assessment and Site Visits) will then be
reported at Committee on Accreditation (COA)
    meetings.
  • The COA, in turn, shares findings with the
    Commission.

17
Accreditation Decision
  • The COA makes one accreditation decision for the
institution. This decision applies to all
educator preparation programs offered by the
    institution.
  • If there are places where one or more programs
at the institution not meeting standards, there
    may be Stipulations.
