Business Drivers
  • What made you decide on MasterMap?
  • Polygonisation
  • Pretty colours
  • Landline has a limited life
  • Just sort of did it!

7
PCC Solution Initial Stage
  • We ordered MasterMap from the OS web site.
  • Purchased a new PC for the translation
  • Bought and loaded Interpose translation software
    from Dotted Eyes
  • Ran the translation flat files not a database
  • Placed the default translated files on the
    corporate sever
  • Added a drop down to the GIS shell application
  • Advertised to PCC that this new form of map was
    there
  • Landline was still the corporate standard map at
    this stage

8
PCC Solution Next Stage
  • Monitored take up on MasterMap
  • Feed back from the GIS User Forum
  • Working party of key users
  • Colour Scheme
  • Layer groups
  • Layer naming convention
  • Done at leisure, about 6 months
  • Landline still Corporate map

9
PCC Solution Implementation
  • Working group decided on the following format for
    PCCs MasterMap
  • A full colour (OS standard) and a monochrome
    (pseudo Landline)
  • Duplicate set of polygons colour and clear
  • Line data to be split into the following layers
  • OS Base Map
  • Buildings
  • General Lines
  • Transport
  • Survey
  • Text
  • Gazetteer
  • Replace Landline for MasterMap layers in
    corporate menus
  • Most end users have not noticed the change over.

10
PCC Solution Updates
  • MasterMap updated three to four times a year
  • Updates done on a copy of the maps on local pc
  • CD back up made of maps for archive
  • Updated maps uploaded to server out side of
    business hours

11
PCC Applications
  • OS mapping data is used as a back drop for our
    data
  • Gis in every department - including
  • Help Desk (CRM)
  • Highways
  • Property
  • Planning
  • Land Charges
  • Emergency planning
  • Economic development

12
The Future
  • Currently no use of TOIDs
  • Linking TOIDs and NLPG to create a data modelling
system for different clients / views of what an
    assets is.
