2What are immunization registries?
- Confidential computer systems that contain
information about children and immunizations - Registries provide a critical tool for increasing
and sustaining vaccination coverage levels - Used increasingly as a decision-support tool for
immunization programs and health-care providers

(NVAC). Initiative on Immunization Registries

10Benefits How can immunization registries help?
- Schools nurses may access Florida SHOTS to check
a childs immunization status - Florida SHOTS contains a robust set of
complicated algorithms that determine if a child
is up-to-date for age based on all doses of
vaccine administered, age, vaccine type,
contraindications, late start, lapsed schedules,
etc. - Florida SHOTS algorithms for immunization
scheduling match statutory requirements and
Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices
(ACIP) recommendations
11Benefits How Can Immunization Registries Help?
- Health care providers can use Florida SHOTS to
search for a childs record, update
immunizations, and certify or print out needed
forms - Algorithms help take the guess work out of
immunizing - Determine next dose due (forecasting)
- Determined doses that are invalid (do not count
toward series completion) - Includes lapsed or late start alternate schedules
- Includes most recent vaccines licensed
- Consolidates fragmented immunization records and
reduces unnecessary immunization
12Benefits How Can Immunization Registries Help?
- Marketing campaign for 2007/2008 will include
schools - School principals may apply for access and manage
staff access under their authority (e.g., school
registrars) - Florida SHOTS may facilitate a childs entry into
school and potentially eliminate delays due to
missing vaccination records
13Whats New2007
- Certified DH 680 (Florida Certification of
Immunization) - Allows health care providers to automatically
certify a DH 680 form within Florida SHOTS with
digital signature - Any authorized Florida SHOTS users may search for
a childs certified DH 680 form (including
schools) - This authority is granted only to Florida SHOTS
via Chapter 64D-3.046, Florida Administrative
Code (see Immunization Guidelines for Florida
Schools, Child Care Facilities and Family Day
Care Homes, March 2007)
