Title: The Impact of Reading News (Knowledge Expansion)

The Impact of Reading News (Knowledge
Expansion) Identify the (1) Topic Sentence (2)
Support ideas (3) Conclusion Reading the
daily makes us better citizens by keeping us
informed about what is happening in the world in
a diverse manner. First, the international
news alerts us to developments around the world
that may have profound consequences. For example,
when a certain country test a nuclear weapon
(such as in India or North Korea), or a region
erupts in violence (such as in Taipei and
Bangkok), or the deepening of global financial
crisis, the news may not be pleasant, but our
understanding is crucial because such events
affect all of us and perhaps event the future of
the world. In addition, our awareness of
current events can get us involved in causes such
as stopping the spread of nuclear weapons or
righting the wrongs that create region
instability. Second, the national news keeps
us in touch with events closer to home. We learn
of the political developments in Washington, such
as the victory of Mr. Barack Obama in November
2008. This may change the way we live, and we
make judgments about our leaders action (such as
possible corruption and misbehaviors) that will
influence the way we vote in the next election.
Last but not least, the state and local news
keep us in touch with our regional politicians
and with issues such as economic development,
higher educational policy, and moral ethics. All
this information goes into our personal databank
and informs our voice in the great chorus of
Taiwanese (Chinese) democracy. In
conclusion, the impact of reading news and
gathering information from various channels is
immeasurable for all intellectuals.

The Expectations of Generation C in the 21st
Century
The young generation (in Taiwan) who
propelled the opposition party to victory in 2000
have come to an unprecedented dilemma of deciding
the future of this society. They were bound to be
disappointed. For the sake of revitalizing our
society, we Generation C should have high hopes
to brace for the unprecedented challenges
ahead. (Generation Change)
