Workbench - If you have not received an e-mail with your
username and password, create your own profile - Go to http//registration.cos.com
- Enter required information
- Click Continue

- Provide your contact information
- Click Continue
11- Finally
- Enter your interests
- Choose a username and password
- Review the privacy policy
- Complete your registration
12You then have the choice of starting to fill out
a full profile, or starting to use your Workbench.
Lets add details to the profile now. This works
just like updating your profile.
13Click any Edit button to start adding to
sections of your profile.
14Type or copy and paste information about your
work into the Expertise section, then click
Update.
15For non-journal articles, simply leave the
irrelevant fields blank.
Type or paste in publication information, then
click Add.
16If you have publications in MEDLINE, you can
search for and upload these automatically by
clicking Add a MEDLINE Publication
which opens a citation search window
pre-populated with your name. Pick date(s), do
the search, and choose citations to add to your
profile.

18Updating your COS Expertise profile and entering
your COS Workbench If you already have a profile
and Workbench, enter your username and password
at www.cos.com and click Log in. either you
received your username and password in an e-mail
or you chose them when adding your profile
Tip If you are working from your desk, select
the Save My Login box so that, in the future,
you can simply click Log in without needing to
enter your username and password each time.
Tip If you have forgotten your username and
password, follow the Forgot Your Password? link
to ask the COS Help Desk to send them to you.
19A COS Workbench This takes you to your COS
Workbench homepage.
Click any profile section in the left column to
start editing your Expertise profile.
20Privacy and Data Protection You will be prompted
to give COS permission to hold and publish your
profile in COS Expertise. Click Confirm to
continue, or Decline to ask COS to delete your
profile.
21Edit your profile Click any profile section to
start adding to sections of your profile.
Click on View Full Profile to see your whole
profile at once and determine which fields may
need to be updated.
22Tip If your profile is complete and up-to-date,
you may simply click on Click to Verify, which
will indicate to those searching that the profile
has been reviewed and is still current.

24Use your profiles unique MyProfile URL Every
profile has a unique URL that allows you to share
your profile with anyone, regardless of their COS
membership status. It is formed as
follows http//myprofile.cos.com/username

Workbench

profile.
25For example, make it part of your e-mail
signature.
26Customize Your MyProfile When you direct people
to view your MyProfile online, you can
personalize what they see! This will not affect
your profile when it is viewed through the COS
Expertise search interface.
27For example, you can hide all your contact
information except your email address if that is
your preferred method of communication.
Simply click on the links in the left column to
hide fields, re-order your profile, or customize
the color scheme.
28Produce your CV Turn your COS Expertise profile
into a curriculum vitae, or résumé.
29Choose which sections to include by selecting the
boxes.
Then determine their layout order.
Then click the Submit layout button.
30Select the individual elements e.g.,
publications that you wish to be included. Then
click the Submit form for processing button at
the bottom of the page.
31This opens your word processing application with
a copy of your CV open. (In some browsers, you
will have to save it to disk and then open it.)
You can now edit and save it as you would any
document.
Tip Maintain your publications, grants received
and other information in your profile. Create
versions of your CV as needed, instead of trying
to keep several versions of your CV on your hard
drive up-to-date.

33Track Your Profile You can see how much others
are viewing your profile by checking your COS
Workbench
34Access Services from Anywhere Use your Workbench
to access expertise, funding and other COS
services on or off campus. Simply click on the
appropriate tab.

- Your username must be unique
- Your username forms part of the unique URL of
your profile http//myprofile.cos.com/username - Both username and password must be 4-15
characters long. - They are not case sensitive.
- Permitted characters are listed on the Change
User ID Web page.
Key in your new username and old and then new
password, then click Update Now.
37Tip When you are in your Workbench, the top
menu will always be available while browsing COS
Web pages. The Workbench Home link will take
you back to your Workbench home page.

academic, media, government, sponsor and
corporate organizations that use COS Expertise. - Use the unique URL of your profile as a home page
