  • with statements compared to 2.4 nationally)
  • 37 of students are eligible for free school
    meals, significantly above the national
  • (16.6) average. This is lower than our partner
Primary Schools which on average is 50.
  • Figures for 2004/5 show attendance was 88.44, by
2007/8 it had risen to 90.8 due to many factors
including restructuring the lunch break. Our
target for individual students is 95 and we are
still closely monitored by National Strategy for
    persistnat absentees.
  • The College intake is principally drawn from
three Wards, Walker , Walkergate and Byker.
  • According to the Office of National Statistics
Multiple Deprivation index two of these Wards are
  • the 30th and 31st most deprived Wards in England
    respectively out of 8,414 Wards.
  • Out of a school population of 1220 students, 51
    (5) are of a different ethnic background.
  • In total we have almost 100 with English as an
    additional language, c98 speaking 2
  • languages upon entry.
  • Exclusion rates 3 (fixed) and 11 (permanent) in
    2004/5 were reduced to 0 and 2 in 2007/8.
  • We were declared a National Challenge School this
summer. Our GCSE 5A-C (incl En Ma) this summer
was 31. We await advice on how we can reach the
    floor target of 30.
