Why Is the INMP Necessary?
  • World is complex and changing.
  • Our students lack a global perspective.
  • U.S. tends to be ethnocentric.

    even grow up to President!
  • There are alternative solutions to global
    problems.
  • War is the last resort.

  • Improve written and oral communication skills.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Practice diplomacy in intercultural settings.

9
Students also learn
  • To frame issues and negotiate positions from
    their chosen countrys unique
    perspective.
  • To learn about negotiation/conflict resolution.
  • To integrate technology into the learning
    process.

10
  • What the Students Said
  • Negotiation is not easy! It was a lot of work
and we had to learn to work together. But it
    was worth it!
  • The world changed since 9/11 and changed us as
    well.
  • Its hard to think like the Chinese.
  • As the U.S., we were criticized by everyone.
We were attacked from all sides. Its not
    easy to be the U.S.
  • I now understand why there is conflict and war.

11
What the faculty said
  • Group work can actually be successful! It
required a lot of my time and energy but the
    results amazed me.
  • Students need to learn what their country is
willing to give up to negotiate successfully.
  • The simulation was a fairly accurate reflection
    of the real world.

15
What can go wrong?
  • I didnt expect name calling and people to be so
    unprofessional.
  • I didnt expect to be caught up in it!
  • Role of SIMCON

16
Students insights
  • I was surprised the way others see us.
  • The U.S. can be very arrogant and demanding.
  • Different types of government work in different
    parts of the world.
  • In negotiations everyone starts out protecting
    their own self interests.

17
And
  • The U.N. needs to be reformed and MNCs need to
    be regulated.
  • Stay on top of world affairs. Most of what was
discussed in the simulation cannot to be
    found in textbooks.
  • Take your role in the simulation seriously and
you will get much more out of it.

18
And finally,
  • This was hard work but it was FUN. I learned so
    much.
  • I think I want to join the diplomatic corps.
