  • Read to Me Campaign reached over 25,000 families
    through our 300 Read to Me partners groups
    serving young families. Campaign provided
  • Read to Me materials flyers, bookmarkers,
    posters and Once Upon a Time booklets
  • Read to Me email with resources i.e monthly
    literacy activity calendars, coupons, information
    to support their work with children and their
    families

  • Golden Apple Foundation assist with curriculum
    design
  • Sandia National Laboratories assist with books
    and science and math kits
  • Student grant writer from UNM has prepared
    proposal to approach other funding sources

  • Maintain three tiered system and an 8 salary
    increase.
  • Create system comparable to the three-tiered
    system for other k-12 personnel i.e principals,
    educational assistants.
  • Support professional development initiatives i.e.
    Golden Apple Foundation, Strengthening Quality in
    Schools, Advanced Placement, Career Pathways.
  • Support salary increases of 4-6 for higher
    education faculty and staff.
  • Accountability
  • Continue to strengthen education accountability
    systems by supporting the Office of Education
    Accountability. Assure the intent of the School
    Reform Act (HB 212 of 2003) is implemented.
  • Programs
  • Support for ABEC partners specific requests of
    the following programs Dual Language program
    UNMs combined Bachelor of Arts and Medical
    Doctor degree program and Nursing Program TVIs
    Tax Help New Mexico.

    each of the partners
  • Group has identified potential grant
    opportunities to support the work of the
    implementation teams
  • ABEC Website and continued support by Technology
    Ventures Corporation, UNM College of Education
    and City of Albuquerque

    and discussions

    groups, best practices and resources

Schools As Center of Community
  • Prepared recommendations for 2005-2006 for the
    use of the Philips Semiconductors Settlement
    fund
  • Merged efforts with the Joint Task Force for
    Schools as Center of Community.
  • Task Force commissioned study
  • Task Force established four models
  • Task Force recommends the establishment of Office
    to coordinate the work of the task force and
    develop Joint Powers Agreements with all
    entities.
  • Commitments from primary Task Force partners for
    funding.

    partners and will approach the Daniels Fund for
    the first year of funding.

Job Mentor Program
  • Served 740 students in 11 high schools
  • 120 Job Mentor Students had summer employment
    through the program
  • 17 students received scholarships to attend post
    secondary education
  • 208 students graduated
