Behavioral Systems Analysis Project
  • I would like to recognize those who make it all
    possible
  • Dr. Malott
  • Andrea Juarez
  • Woan Tian Chow
  • Mark Klann Jr.
  • Kendra Priest
  • Kristin Hustyi
  • Hui Ling Loh
  • Melody Taylor

3
Behavioral Systems Analysis Project
  • The 6 steps of BSA are the driving force behind
    Dr. Malotts
  • Behavioral Analysis Training System.
  • Behavioral Research Supervisory System
  • is the performance manager for the entire
  • system.

4
Mission Statement
  • Teach students the principles of Behavior
Analysis in order to provide them with the skills
and training necessary to analyze problems in
real settings and increase their knowledge and
fluency of those principles to improve the
well-being and functioning of organizations and
    society.

5
Behavioral Systems Analysis Project
  • BSAP provides an opportunity for students to
apply the principles of behavior analysis in an
    organizational setting in order to
  • Improve professional and social skills
  • Build a strong repertoire in doing system
    analysis
  • Conduct on-site performance management
  • Develop a measurement system
  • Design interventions

6
Undergraduate Roles in BSAP
  • Attending weekly BSAP system meetings Class
  • Maintaining attendance for the BSAP classes
  • Revising/ creating job-aids power points
  • Creating individual meeting sign-up rosters
  • Emailing reminders to students BSAP Team
  • Working on a mini-project

7
Spring 2005
  • BSAP became a formally structured class in spring
    of
  • 2005 I was a student in this class. From my
    point of
  • view, a disconnect that existed within the system
    was
  • finding a job site willing to participate for the
    semester.
  • Prior to this semester, BSAP was offered as an
  • independent project and the instructor met once a
    week
  • with the students to track their progress.

8
Accomplishments Disconnects
  • The challenges being faced by our current
  • system serve as practice for real life in our
  • careers as behavior analysts. Just like in real
  • life, the most commonly used solutions involve
  • better communication. The following are a few
  • challenges faced by the BSAP system.

9
Fall 2005 Disconnect
  • Each semester job aids and power point
    presentations are revised
  • Not all revisions make it to the final collection
    of course materials
  • Lack of communication and teamwork
  • Securing job-sites for students

10
Fall 2005 Revisions
  • During this semester we revised the way we worked
by maintaining good communication to ensure all
revisions are tracked. The BSAP Team had
pre-existing course material to revise to
enhance the overall quality of the job aids,
    worksheets, and PowerPoint Presentations.

11
Spring 2006
  • The communication from fall 2005 assisted the
BSAP Team in ensuring students would get started
right away by providing business sites for
students in need. Four out of seven currently
registered students are using the provided
business sites. This also enabled us to workshop
current issues and pinpoints within those
    pre-existing business sites.

12
Spring 2006 Revisions
  • Another new tool was created for the BSAP Team
Woan Tian assigned permanent tasks for each
assistant to ensure all of our team goals are
being met. This change will provide the BSAP
students with the greatest amount of assistance
    from us.

13
Spring 2006 Revisions
  • Something that has recently developed in BSAP
involves the students working together to assist
one another with their projects. During each
class the students present their data and receive
    feedback from their peers.

14
Spring 2006 Revisions
  • Now that we are providing a workshop environment
for the students, I am witnessing more teamwork
within the class. Students have requested a
class contact roster to set up IOA (inter
    observer agreement) for their projects.

15
Continuity
  • Continuity is created at each systems meeting.
  • The issues that arise during our meetings
  • become assigned tasks. All of these tasks
  • are necessary for the BSAP Team to be
  • successful in developing skilled students within
  • BSAP.

16
Continuity
  • I feel giving the highlights of our mission
  • to the next 1st year masters student will help
the next BSAP Team build upon our success.

17
Staying Connected
  • My mini project is to create a format for
  • a Systems CD that will be updated by the
  • end of each semester, which will ensure
  • future continuity for BSAP.
  • This CD will be supplemental to
  • the System Supervisor Manual and given
  • to the next BSAP graduate supervisor.

18
Staying Connected
  • Some recommendations so far include
  • Utilize your undergraduate assistants for weekly
    tasks.
  • Take the system class and the research methods
class while instructing BSAP in order to have a
better understanding and knowledge about OBM and
    systems.
  • Take the Advanced System Class to broaden your
    applied experience in system analysis.

19
Staying Connected
  • A training program is needed for 1st yr. MA to
see what right looks like in OBM/ Performance
    Management.
  • Maintain a record of class and system meetings
    for future reference.
  • Ensure the BSAP Team has a CD with the most
recent revisions by the end of each semester.

20
Continuity Accountability
  • Woan Tian, Mark, I have organized
  • a system that works for good continuity.
  • At the end of this semester we will work together
    to finalize the System
  • Supervisors Manual. The manual will
  • be updated by each outgoing Supervisor
  • to maintain the future of BSAP.

Future Concerns for BSAP
  • Primary focus for the incoming BSAP Team
  • Certify the students on
  • Identifying a pin point
  • Developing a measurement system
  • Organizing data

24
Personal Experience
  • I have been involved with BSAP for three
semesters and have enjoyed watching it develop
    into a well organized system.
  • I feel being a student first is crucial to
    assisting the new students.

25
Personal Experience
  • My first semester as an undergraduate assistant
was challenging. The 499 course layout was
confusing in the beginning and I was grateful for
Marks guidance. Once I learned the routine and
how to use a computer well, my tasks became
    easier to accomplish.

26
Personal Experience
  • I am also grateful for BCW, I learned how to
properly maneuver through some commonly used
Microsoft Software and this set me up for
    success.

27
Personal Experience
  • My second semester as an undergraduate assistant
has went well. I have learned how to hold myself
accountable. I have the experience and ability
to really help the BSAP students this semester by
foreseeing common challenges faced by many
    students.

28
Personal Experience
  • I am pleased to see this semester develop some
long term changes within BSAP operations by
providing a work shop environment for the
students during class. Hopefully BSAP will be
recognized as a practicum in the future, giving
students another option to fulfill the practicum
    requirement to graduate.

29
Personal Experience
  • My personal goal is to be a future graduate
supervisor for BSAP. I have enjoyed being a part
of the graduate system as an undergraduate
assistant and would like the opportunity to
continue to make improvements within this system.
