Guidelines for Full-Time Students Including
Those with Assistantships, Fellowships,
Traineeships, Tuition Waivers, and Students on
Visas
  • Enroll for at least 12 credit-hours on a
    letter-grade basis and/or pass-fail
    thesis/dissertation hours.
  • You must register each semester to receive
    financial support.
  • Substitute up to three hours of audit with the
    approval of the Associate Chair for Graduate
    Studies.
  • Do not enroll for 1XXX or 2XXX level courses on a
    letter-grade basis.

Guidelines for Part-Time andCo-op Students
  • The minimum load is three credit-hours.
  • Students in the Graduate Cooperative Program are
    required to be full-time students during their
    terms on campus.

should be paid by 400 p.m. August 18th Last
day to add a course August 25th Registration
closes at 430 p.m. August 25th All registration
fees, including the August 25th late penalty,
must be paid by 400 p.m.

  • How to sign up for variable course hours such as
    thesis/dissertation hours
  • ME____7000
  • 3-Digit Suffix
  • The 3-digit suffix is the first three letters of
    your advisors last name. For example, ME 7000
    WHI for Dr. Whiteman.

  • VERY IMPORTANT
  • After you sign up for ME/NRE/MP 7000/9000, go to
    the bottom of the screen and click Class Options.
    On the next screen, type in the number of
    semester hours.
  • Warning The system defaults to one hour if you
    do not do this. THIS IS BAD!!
  • Undesignated GRAs should sign up for ME/NRE/MP
    7000/9000 WHI.

  • Georgia Tech requires that you verify your
    schedule on the web Student Access System
  • https//oscar.gatech.edu
  • Verification IS CRITICAL because you are
    responsible for all courses remaining on your
    schedule at the end of late registration.

    (10,147 out-of-state and 2,835 in-state each
    semester).
  • Get a receipt.
  • Do not use campus mail.

  • To continue to receive GRA/GTA and fellowship
    monies and out-of-state tuition waivers, you must
    submit an electronic Support Form by the due date
    prior to each term.

Salary Disbursement Through the Payroll Department
  • Direct deposit is required for all salary
    payments. (THIS IS IMPORTANT.)
  • If you havent set up Direct Deposit, go to the
    Department of Human Resources (500 Tech Parkway).
  • Or sign up using techworks_at_gatech.edu.
  • If you are new to this country, you must
    establish an account (checking, money-market, or
    savings account) with a local bank before setting
    up Direct Deposit.

Salary Disbursement Through the Payroll
Department (Continued)
  • Salary is disbursed on a monthly basis on the
    last work day of each month and on December 22,
    2006.
  • The first disbursement is paid on the last work
    day in August (for about one-half month).
  • A payroll check is not issued. To verify payment
    of your salary, check the Georgia Tech website at
    techworks.gatech.edu or contact your bank.
  • Go to techworks.gatech.edu to change your
    address, your tax allowance, and to print your
    W-2 form for 2006. If you have problems accessing
    the site, call 894-7193.

Woodruff School and Institute Fellowship Stipends
Paid by the Bursars Office
  • Stipends are posted to your OSCAR account.
  • With Direct Deposit, the remainder of the stipend
    will go to your bank.
  • Without Direct Deposit, the remainder will be
    sent to your Georgia Tech mailbox if you live on
    campus or to your local or permanent address if
    you live off campus.
  • Advance arrangements for one semester at a time
    can be made for checks to be sent to an address
    other than your Georgia Tech mailbox. Go to the
    Bursars Office or oscar.gatech.edu.

Outside Employment
  • Employment outside the Woodruff School is
  • limited to eight hours a week.
  • This rule applies to all full-time students
    (GRAs, GTAs, and fellowship holders).
  • Complete the Outside Employment
  • Request form.
  • Have your advisor approve your
  • employment by signing the form.
  • Submit the completed form to Dr. Joshi.

  • Set up appointments using the Woodruff School
    Directory.
