Best?a program
  • whose objectives are to provide maximum labor
market flexibility by teaching job-entry skills
    in a variety of occupations
  • that stresses depth by teaching as many
increasingly higher level skills in a single
    occupation as possible

15
Second IssueAcademic Content
16
Dilemma
  • Connection between what is taught and how it will
    be used
  • Need to relate academic concepts to workplace
  • Lack of motivation and interest in content areas

17
Occupational AnalysisAssumptions
  • Expert workers are the best source for task
    analysis.
  • Any occupation can be effectively described in
terms of DUTIES, TASKS, and KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
    TRAITS.

From DACUM to Delphi
  • Delphi Surveys are a method for structuring a
group communication process, so that the process
is effective in allowing a group of individuals,
as a whole, to deal with a complex problem."

20
Delphi Validation
  • A Delphi Survey is a procedure for refining the
opinions of the DACUM Panel to validate their
    consensus position.
  • Surveying a larger group of experts then is
considered to be more reliable and is thus more
    objective.

21
Two Heads Are Better Than One
  • The feedback provides textual and statistical
material to the DACUM Panel and asks them to
reconsider their outcomes if it they are
radically different from the larger group.

22
Validity and Reliability
  • The aim is to repeat this process until finally a
certain level of consensus is reached.
  • A final report, pulling the responses together,
    is then prepared.
  • The curriculum is then updated to industry
    practices.

23
The Final Product
  • The job analysis concludes with an update to the
LCC program goals, assessments and curriculum.
