Phasing Ashore

• LHD 1s 2004 deployment
• Fifth Fleet would not allow AVCAL or IMRL to go
  ashore
• Engines were off-loaded to Bahrains Pool
• AWSE
• No storage available for Dirt Det AWSE on LHD/LHA
• LANT ACEs bring M-Gators (2) and stow on hangar

Conclusion

• Fleet Commanders will likely want to use L-Deck
  for other missions when MEU goes ashore
• Other missions will likely involve embarked
  aircraft
• ACE should not plan on stripping ship of
  ship-owned IMRL
• Future plans (MALSP, MPF(F)) should consider LHD
  storage limitations
• Future ACE will likely involve split ESG
  operations
