3Pre-Deployment Planning
- Issuance of Aviation Pre-Deployment Readiness
Plan - Issued at D-300
- Used to ensure embarking Aviation Unit
preparedness - Specific validations/verifications accomplished
(i.e. AVCAL, Test Bench, IMRL reviews, Defensive
Expeditionary Posture (DEP), Aviation Training,
etc) - Readiness Review Conferences
- RRC 1
- Introduction of Stake holders
- Stake holder responsibilities outlined
- Review Lessons Learned from previous ESGs,
- Discuss milestones,
- Determine dates for validations/verifications
4Pre-Deployment Planning
- Readiness Review Conferences (cont)
- RRC2
- Conduct MALS site visit
- Discuss outcome of IMRL review, AVCAL
verification and progress of Test Bench
verifications - Work through challenges associated with overdue
milestones - RRC3
- Review Supply/Logistics processes
- Identify Supply Expeditor
- Confirm Beach Det plan
- Review overdue milestones and discuss remaining
milestones to be accomplished before D day
5Loading Aboard
- LHA/LHD Combat Cargo and MEU Embarkation Officers
- Identify material and optimize stowage
- Available Stowage
- Lower V vehicle stowage . . . Full
- Upper V vehicle stowage . . . Full
- Cargo Hold 10 . . .Full
- Hangar Bay
- Increased hangar bay stowage limits aircraft use
- Future ACE aircraft will further limit storage
area - Flight Deck
- Unable to safeguard material from inclement
weather - Future ACE aircraft need all available Flight
Deck area
6Future LHD Boat Bay
VOLUME GAINED BY USING OPTIONS 2 OR 3
EXISTING 02 LEVEL
NEW 01 LEVEL PLATFORM
DMRTs 1 2
7Phasing Ashore
- LHD 1s 2004 deployment
- Fifth Fleet would not allow AVCAL or IMRL to go
ashore - Engines were off-loaded to Bahrains Pool
- AWSE
- No storage available for Dirt Det AWSE on LHD/LHA
- LANT ACEs bring M-Gators (2) and stow on hangar
Deck - Two M-Gators take one H-1 aircraft spot
- PAC ACEs bring?
- More Quadcons and Palcons required to support
Dirt Det
8Ship Challenges
- Possible greater Staff presence
- AT-FP Equipment
- Storage for walk-thru x-ray machine
- Possible larger AVCAL
- MV-22 taxiing
- LHD NATOPS
- SHIPALT Schedules
9Future ACE Challenges
- JSF (LHD)
- Flight Deck interoperability
- DMRT remains aboard LHD
- O to (OEM) Maintenance concept
- Automated logistics
- Increased SE/AWSE/AAE requirements ashore
- Cooling/Electrical Carts
- MV-22 (LHD/LHA/LPD)
- Large SE
- Common CASS configurations
- Split ESG operations
- Large AVCAL
- Maximize Flight Deck spots
- UH-1Y AH-1Z
- Stowage for Blade Struts
- Larger footprint
- More Armament capability?
- Split ESG Operations
- CH-53X
- Split ESG operations
10Conclusion
- Fleet Commanders will likely want to use L-Deck
for other missions when MEU goes ashore - Other missions will likely involve embarked
aircraft - ACE should not plan on stripping ship of
ship-owned IMRL - Future plans (MALSP, MPF(F)) should consider LHD
storage limitations - Future ACE will likely involve split ESG
operations
