• Initiated in 1997 by the Alfred P. Sloan
  Foundation
• Thirty institutions nationwide
• Rice was awarded grant in May 2001
• Grant will end in June 2004
• Three students began program in Fall 2002
• Ten students will begin Fall 2003

• Master of Science degree
• No thesis
• Work experience
• Management and communication training
• Industrial contacts
• 21 month program
• Part-time enrollment available

Cohort Courses Required for all Tracks

• Management for Science and Engineering
• An introduction to basic business concepts, such
  as Organization Behavior, Accounting, Strategic
  Management, and Marketing.
• Science Policy and Ethics
• An introduction to the policy, politics, ethics
  and legal issues that relate to science and
  technology.
• Masters Seminar
• Guest speakers expose students to careers and
  disciplines in each focus area.
• Cain Project trains students in various areas of
  communication.

• Directly related to the area of study
• Lasts approximately 6 months
• Oral presentation and written reports required
• Assistance provided through Career Services
• May take place with students employer
