    LHR about this process for Library MPs

  • A committee worked to create the policy and
    procedures for MP promotion
  • Alice and LMC approved the recommendations of
    this committee
  • In 2005 MPs were able to apply for and receive
    promotion in place

What is Promotion?
  • The opportunity to advance within a position
  • Recognition of
  • Sustained accomplishments
  • Significant growth and development
  • Contributions to the Library and the University

What is Banding?
  • The Library has five MP bands
  • You are assigned a band when hired
  • You can go to the next band through promotion

How to prepare your dossier
  • Start now!
  • Save all performance evaluations for reference!
  • Keep a file of committee service, conference
    work, projects, and presentations, etc. that
    demonstrate your contributions and development!
  • Save letters, emails, etc. recognizing your
    exceptional performance!
  • Consider colleagues you might ask to write a
    reference
  • Talk to others who have gone through the process

Your Promotion Statement
  • Review the expectations and criteria of the band
    that you are applying to
  • There are three core groupings of criteria
  • Job Knowledge
  • Team/Project work, as appropriate
  • Leadership/Supervision, as appropriate
  • Your statement should address these areas
