Remit for the Standards Project
  • Produce National Occupational Standards which
  • are usable by Employers (corporate and SMEs)
  • are not only for qualifications
  • simple and easy to understand
  • match real jobs across our sectors convergence
    of roles
  • allow for simplification of assessment when used
    within qualifications
  • By
  • adopting a flexible, innovative approach
  • using a radically different format to present the

Employer Demand
  • 53 of employers identified Basic Computing
    skills as a future skills needs over the next 2
    to 3 years, whilst 47 identified Advanced IT
    skills.
  • In 2002 the employer identified Basic IT user
    skills gap in the English workforce is estimated
    to be 30 of all skills gaps, with a further 30
    lacking sufficient Advanced IT skills. This is
    double the gap for 2001.

Qualification structureConsultation
  • The need for a much more flexible approach to the
    design of qualification structures for S/NVQs has
    featured prominently in consultation responses.
  • Flexibility of qualification design is required
    to match both the increasing diversity of job
    roles within the ICT sector and the diverse
    application and use of ICT.
  • There was substantial support for the concept of
    credit accumulation leading to an award.
