Abstract
  • Two types of repair
  • 1) Planned in connection with Special Surveys,
    which always includes coating work and machinery
    overhaul, but may also include steel replacement.
  • 2) In connection with accidents.

Quality Control
  • Many repair yards are ISO certified.
  • On some repair yards the ISO certificate is
    not worth the paper it is printed on.
  • Use references for Q.C.
  • Long term contracts larger owners

Repair Contract
  • When setting up the contract, Owners may want to
    include certain clauses.
  • There is no guarantee, however, that the yard
    will accept the clauses.

Quality Control
  • Quality of repairs is to some degree dependent on
    geography.
  • So is the price of repairs!

Quality Control - Coating
  • Owner should have a coating inspector on-site
  • Make sure also coating supplier representative is
    available.

  • Enrol specialists for specialized jobs repair
    of turbochargers e.g. should not be left to the
    yard alone.

  • Steel for replacement/repair should as far as
    practically be cut in a workshop, not on-site.
  • Class should ensure that the right steel quality
    is used.

  • Yards are entitled to delegate work to
    subcontractors.
  • Yards cannot delegate the liability!

  • Yards are responsible for carrying out the work.
  • The Owner is responsible for obtaining class
    approval of the work!
