- The first Nazi concentration camp was opened
at an old powder factory on March 20,1933.
The camp was used to hold thousands of
political opponents of the government.

4Bergen - Belsen
5Bergen-Belsen was near the villages of Bergen and
Belsen in Germany. It was built in 1943 as a
prison camp and a Jewish slave work camp. It was
meant for 10,000 people but ended up holding
41,000. It did not have any gas chambers, but
37,000 prisoners died there. They died from
diseases or just being over worked. Anne Frank,
one of the most famous concentration camp victims
today that died there. Bergen-Belsen mainly
served as a holding camp for the Jewish
prisoners. The camp was divided into eight
sections, a detention camp, two womens camps, a
special camp, neutrals camps, "star" camp,
Hungarian camp and a tent camp. In March, Belsen
was changed to be used as a Recovery Camp,
where prisoners of other camps were too sick to
work were brought, though none received medical
treatment. On April 15, 1945 the camp was
liberated. Bergen-Belsen was burned to the ground
because of a Typhus epidemic and louse
infestation. The total number of deaths at
Bergen-Belsen, from 1943 to June 1945, was about
50,000.
6What were the consequences of the concentration
camps?
Because of the concentration camps and one mans
beliefs many people lost their lives. More than
six million Jews were executed in the
concentration camps and only a few lived. Also,
because of the Concentration camps, many people
were left without their family.

camps in World War II?
- The conflict surrounding the camps was that
all the Nazis were taking over Germany. It
created tension between the victims and the
Nazis. Which caused Jews to become angry and
rebel. -

outcome?
- It was the main reason for the war to start in
the first place. The concentration camps brought
stress to the soldiers that were liberating the
concentration camps.
