Antivirus

• Protects a computer against viruses by
  identifying and removing any computer viruses
  found in memory, on storage media or on incoming
  files.
• Examples are Nortons, McAfee, AVG, eTrust
• Some are free (AVG)

Backup Utility

• Allows a user to copy selected files or an entire
  hard disk onto another disk or storage medium
• Good idea to have more than one copy to prevent
  loss of data

Disk Defragmenter

• Utility that reorganizes files and unused space
  on a computers hard disk so the operating system
  can access the data more quickly and programs run
  faster.

Disk Scanner

• Utility that
• 1 detects and corrects both physical and
  logical problems on a disk
• 2 searches for and removes unnecessary files

File Compression

• Utility that shrinks the size of files so they
  take up less space in storage.

• Utility that allows users to display and copy
  contents of graphics files.

  amount of time.
