18West Liberty Foods L.L.C.Benefits and
Challenges of creating an EMS and becoming 14001
Certified

West Liberty Foods was asked to participate in
the Pilot Project for EPA for the meat
processing industry in 2001.
20What kind of a commitment would West Liberty
Foods need to join the pilot project?
- We were told it would take about 2000 hours to
complete the pilot project and our EMS. - We made the commitment to join the pilot project

environmental concerns and how they can affect
the company. - We constantly are looking at better ways to
improve our environmental performance - Cost Savings

manage their environmental aspects in each of
their departments. - We use the EMS Environmental Management Programs
to help us manage many of our environmental
projects. - The EMS can help you prepare should you ever have
a spill or a release. - Some of our customers like the fact that we are
ISO 14001 certified.

- Making one ton of recycled paper uses 64 percent
less energy and 50 percent less water reduces
air pollution by 74 percent saves 17 trees and
creates five times more jobs than manufacturing
one ton of paper products from virgin wood pulp.
