The Real Home
  • The only things that are special about the real
    home is that its connected to the Digital Region
    Network and the family that live there are
    special too
  • The bedrooms are used for education, study, work,
    hobbies and entertainment where these people
    get time for sleep from Ive no idea
  • The living room is used for viewing TV as well as
    eating meals and just being a family
  • Both parents use the dining room for work as well
    as self-learning and general web browsing
  • From time-to-time the computer equipment is put
    away and they have a nice family meal not as
    often as they would like though!

The Real Father
  • The father uses a web site and email to run his
    two businesses from home
  • He has a number of subscriptions to IP TV
    services too, this gives him access to Classic
    Football matches and Action Movies.
  • He uses web-based eLearning tools as he studies
    for his Telecommunication Engineering diploma
    on-line.
  • He has family over seas in Australia they have
    access to IP telephony and Video Telephony
    services through the internet
  • The great thing for him is the quality of
    experience with his on-demand TV services and the
    job opportunities created by the investment in
    Digital Region .

The Real Mother
  • The mother is a local authority employee working
    from home two days per week and in the field for
    one
  • She arranges video conference meetings to keep in
    touch with her colleagues and complete her case
    work.
  • She is a member of local church but can not
    attend as she has to work on Sundays.
  • She keeps up-to-date with church services by
    downloading the Video PodCast and watching them
    when she can.
  • She also worries about her aged mother-in-law
    (even though she is in sheltered accommodation),
    and keeps in touch with her morning and evening
    through TV based video telephony.

The Real Son
  • The son is in his 20s and suffers from a
    hereditary heart condition. He used to attend
    hospital and the practice nurse regularly, now
    because of assisted living technologies he does
    not have to he feels like he has got his life
    back
  • He is half way through a media degree and gets a
    free World Cinema subscription to a Movies on
    Demand service to support the course
  • Due to health problems he is not very mobile so
    most tutorials are conducted over video
    conferencing facilities in his home.
  • He earns money by developing interactive video
    content for the games industry.
  • He is collaborating with a local SME to develop a
    business case for a start-up idea he has.

The Real Daughter
  • The daughter has suffered from behavioral
    problems, she is the subject of a home monitoring
    order and has to be in the house between six in
    the evening and seven in the morning.
  • She has to check in with her case worker using
    video telephony each day and is taking an
    assessed anger management course.
  • She is receiving specialist English and
    Mathematics mentoring in her home through a
    virtual classroom service. This has had a
    positive impact on her grades and attitude
  • She likes to record and photograph local bands
    (with their permission), and maintains a social
    networking site for young people with a gig guide
    and personal ratings etc.

The Real Grandmother
  • The grandmother lives in sheltered accommodation
    and has no idea about computers, she is happy
    with her TV remote control though, especially
    when her GP calls to check up on her
  • She is amazed that she can chat over the TV to
    her daughter from her armchair twice a day
    without getting a big bill and finds the contact
    with her daughter very reassuring
  • She has mobility and a heart problem which is now
    monitored in her room connected over the digital
    region.
  • She loves 40s and 50s movies and she likes to
    keep up with local affairs by watching Local
    Government TV!
