Introduction

• In a recent survey, respondents globally listed
  student demand and pedagogical advantage as the
  most important motivating factors for
  institutional engagement in e-learning.
• Gartner report, Higher Education E-Learning
  Motivation and Security (Jan 2007)
• In a survey of LT Directors (Dec 2004)
• 70 felt it was important or very important
  that their school increased its use of e-learning
  in the next three to five years.
• 92.5 the promotion and support of self-directed
  learning as the main benefit of e-learning for
  their school/department
• 95 believed the biggest barrier to e-learning
  within their school was time needed to create
  effective materials

  improve the student learning process through the
  use of technology (e-learning).

  with a dedicated VLE support function

  Nottingham since 1993

What is WebCT?

• WebCT is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
• A VLE is a web-based system that enables
  lecturers to place their modules online quickly
  and easily
• A platform that supports and manages various
  aspects of teaching and learning
• WebCT CE6 a.k.a Blackboard Learning System CE6

  Scheme Maths Dec/Jan 2006/7. Also within Vet
  School Biosciences.

  blogging tools, shared online workspaces, video
  editing facilities, interactive whiteboards, HD
