Commissioning 2 (Oct. 2004)
  • Stability of the instrument hardware OK after
    a few months without observations
  • Routine operations in low spectral resolution
in the H and K bands (siderostats UTs)
  • and in medium spectral resolution in the K
    and H bands (UTs).
  • Three telescope observations OK.
  • Instrumental transfer function close to 1 with
    excellent atmospheric conditions.
  • Limiting magnitude of AMBER in medium
    resolution K about 6.
  • Issues remaining to be tested and checked
  • Identify all sources of vibration of the VLTI.
    Corrective actions are being taken.
  • Better VLTI baseline model required to evaluate
the AMBER limiting magnitude in low spectral
    resolution.
  • Optimization of the entrance flux and interface
with the new VLTI IRIS image sensor.
  • Test of the differential OPD between bands and
    Atmospheric Dispersion Compensator.
  • Simultaneous fringe search with 3 telescopes.
  • Interface with the FINITO fringe tracker.
  • Performance assessment with the ATs.
  • Improve the alignment maintenance modifying
    some mechanics.
  • Next commissioning run on sky beginning of
    period P75 (starting April 2005).
  • Science Demonstration Time and Guaranteed Time
    Observation with 3 UTs Christmas
