Get Organized at School

• Clearly label books
• Color code different subject materials
• Have a copy of your schedule in your HW pad,
  locker, and at home
• Write all assignments down in your HW pad
• Under each HW assignment list the materials you
  will need to complete the assignment (textbook,
  notebook, etc.)
• Plan the times you will go to your locker and
  what supplies you should get at each visit
• Clean out your locker once a week

Get Organized at Home

• Set up a quiet, well-lit study area
• Have supplies (pen, paper, ruler, calculator,
  etc.) at home
• Select a specific time for homework each day
• Complete your hardest subjects first
• Check off assignments as you complete them
• Always pack up the night before
• Check Homework Hotline
• Get a calendar and plan ahead for long term
  assignments

Manage Your Time Well

• Use class time and study halls efficiently
• Use academic support to form study groups, to
  work ahead on long term assignments, or to seek
  extra help from teachers
• Create a study plan
• Break your project up into smaller tasks and
  designate how much of it should be done by a
  certain date
• Check for lighter HW days when you can study
  ahead for tests or work on assignments that are
  due in a few days
• Check ahead for days when you have other
  commitments so that you can reserve time for
  studying

Study Tips

• Use index or flash cards
• Every time your teacher asks a question write it
  down
• Review information before you go to sleep
• After studying, write down everything you learned
• Have someone quiz you
• Break assignments down so you can study a portion
  every night
• If you know the topic of an essay question,
  prepare the essay the night before

Test-Taking Tips

• Have everything you need for the test (pen,
  paper, calculator, etc.)
• Answer all questions- dont leave any blanks
• Answer the easy questions first
• Mark the more difficult questions and return to
  them at the end of the test
• Check your work
• Pace yourself so that you dont run out of time
• Read all of the directions. If there are
  multi-step directions, count the steps. You
  should have an answer for each step.

Being Successful in the Classroom

• Be in school on time everyday
• Monitor grades on K-12 Planet
• Learn each teachers policies procedures
• Be prepared for class
• Always do your homework
• Seek extra help during Academic Support or after
  school when you need it
• Participate in class
• Be a good group member
• Do your share of the work
• Be open to new ideas
• Encourage and support everyone in the group

Things To Do When You Need Help

• Seek help from your teacher during academic
  support or after school
• Keep your parents informed if you are having
  difficulty with a class
• Talk to your guidance counselor
• Set up a study group in Academic Support
• Ask your teacher to set you up with a peer tutor
