• born 1828 Jonesboro, Virginia
• 1852-3 scout surgeon in the civil war
• had a successful practice in regular medicine
  for years
• 1864 three of his children died of meningitis
  brother hooked on morphine
• At that point he decided there had to be
  something better

• researched his techniques for 10 years before he
  flung to the breeze the banner of osteopathy in
  1874
• traveled around Missouri for 18 years practicing
  and healing patients until the first school was
  founded in 1892 in Kirksville
• died 1917

John Martin Littlejohn, D.O., M.D.1865 - 1947

• Treated by AT Still in 1897
• Started ASO training in 1898
• Graduated in 1900
• Founded Chicago School of
• Osteopathy in 1900
• Visited Europe in 1903 to discuss
• possibility of opening a school in England
• Moved to England in 1913
• Began the BSO in 1917
