Staying Focused on Learning
  • Your child has an agenda/planner to write
  • homework assignments, test/project dates and
  • other important information.
  • Your child should be writing daily in their
    composition books and answering Essential
  • Questions (EQ)/Purpose of class (POC),
  • as well as other main ideas from
  • the lesson.

4
LABS
  • Students will be doing labs throughout the
    school year.
  • If a student misses a lab because of an excused
    absence, they
  • will be able to make up the lab with prior
    arrangements or given
  • an alternative assignment.
  • If a student misses a lab because of
    misbehavior
  • they will not be allowed to make up the lab.
  • Listening, paying attention, following safety
    rules are all very
  • important during a class, but especially during
    a lab.

5
TESTS/Quizzes
  • Tests are based on unit standards and are used
to monitor student progress. Unit ideas/concepts
can sometimes take one to two weeks to master.
  • Tests are given at the end of each unit or
    chapter and cover main ideas.
  • Students will be given ample time to prepare for
  • Unit/Chapter Tests.
  • Students can expect either a quiz or test weekly.

6
Student Progress
  • Please check I Parent. Normally, grades are
entered on Tuesdays and/or Fridays. These are
not the final grades. They are to keep you
informed of your childs progress and to assist
you in helping your child succeed.

7
Studying
  • Your child can study using study guides,
    vocabulary lists, notes,
  • pretests, and other study aids that will be given
    throughout the year.
  • Students will also have workbooks that reinforce
    information from the textbooks.

8
Homework
  • Homework will not be given every day,
  • BUT they should be learning their vocabulary,
  • reviewing their study guide and reading.
  • Homework is due the next day and cannot be
  • made up unless without an excused absence
  • in which case, two days are allowed for
  • makeup work.

9
Student led Conferences
  • Tests and other examples of school work are
held in a folder until the end of the nine weeks.
  • Your childs responsibility in this is to lead
    the conference, emphasize their strengths,
acknowledge their weaknesses, and plan for the
    rest of the nine weeks

10
Student Led Conferences
  • If you can not attend the conference, then
  • your child will be required to lead the
  • conference at home with you.
  • We encourage you to be a positive part of
  • this conference process and help your child
  • plan their goals.
