End-of-Course-Tests
  • The purpose of the EOCT is to assess student
achievement of the state adopted curriculum in
core courses and to provide diagnostic data in
    support of improved student achievement.

3
EOCT Courses to be Tested
  • American Literature and Composition
  • Ninth Grade Literature and Composition
  • Algebra I
  • Geometry
  • Biology
  • Physical Science
  • U S History
  • Economics/Business/Free Enterprise

4
Georgia Performance Standards
  • Beginning with Winter 05, EOCT for the following
courses will be based on the Georgia Performance
    Standards (GPS)
  • 9th Grade Literature and Composition
  • American Literature and Composition
  • Biology
  • Physical Science

5
Students to be Tested
  • All students who are enrolled in an EOCT course,
regardless of grade level, must be administered
the EOCT in order to be eligible to receive
    credit for that course.
  • Zeros should not be awarded for students failing
to take the test. A final grade or any credit
should not be posted without the EOCT score
    included in grade.
  • If a student is earning graduation credit for a
course which matches an EOCT, the student must
    take the EOCT.
  • .

6
Students to be Tested
  • Students taking a college course, an online
course, or a correspondence class who are
receiving credit towards graduation for an EOCT
    course
  • Systems/schools are responsible for approving
courses that meet the objectives for the course
in which the student is earning credit
  • Middle School students enrolled in an EOCT
course, whether or not they receive HS credit for
    the class

7
Students to be Tested
  • To earn credit for a course requiring an EOCT, a
student enrolling from a non-accredited program
(i.e. private schools, home school, etc.) must
take and pass the corresponding EOCT.
  • Additionally, the diagnostic value of the EOCT
will allow informed decisions about the placement
of students who are transferring to your school.

8
Test Administration
  • The EOCT is the final exam for the course
  • The EOCT will count as 15 of the students final
course grade (15 EOCT score/85 course grade
    final course grade)

9
Test Administration

  • Spring 2006 April 17 June 2

Scheduling EOCT
  • Local Systems will select a ten (10) day window
    for administration and make-up testing
  • Dates will be entered on SchoolHouse
  • One- or two-day administrations allow scheduling
    flexibility
  • Systems may test by subject or by period (typical
    exam schedule)

11
Make-up for EOCT
  • Suggested procedure for students absent from
testing (if no Local Board Policy)
  • If a student is absent on the day of the test and
misses all make-up opportunities for the main
administration, then the student should take the
EOCT during the next testing window or forfeit
credit for that course. Only under extreme
circumstances should a student postpone testing
    to the third testing window.

12
Scheduling EOCT
  • Alternative programs
