  • 30 Afghan narcotics transit through Northern

  • Of those, an estimated 90 are trafficked through
    Tajikistan
  • 835 mile border with Afghanistan
  • U.S.-Mexico border is slightly twice as long at
    1,951 miles.
  • Longest Afghan border of all Central Asian
    countries.
  • Tajiks have ethnic and linguistic ties to Afghans
  • Tajik, Dari, and Farsi are very similar.
  • Afghan traffickers can easily blend into Tajik
    society.
  • Tajikistan is the poorest CIS country
  • One of the poorest countries in the world (204th
    ppp rank).
  • Per capita income is 252.
  • Purchasing power parity is 1,200 (compare to
