1
Oxyacetylene Setup
  • By,

2
Safety First
  • MOST IMPORTANT
  • Safety Glasses with appropriate lenses
  • 5 Tint for cutting 10 Tint for welding
  • Make sure to also wear
  • Long Sleeve Shirts
  • Full Length Pants
  • Close Toed Shoes
  • Leather Welding Gloves

3
Safety Cont.
  • Regarding Tanks DO NOT
  • Lay horizontally
  • Knock over
  • Break the tops
  • Use oil or grease around them

4
Getting Started
  • Back out adjusting screws on both tanks
  • Proceed to open cylinder valves
  • Oxygen Tank Open all the way (0-2200psi)
  • Acetylene Tank Turn valve ¼ to ½ (0-300psi)
  • NEVER MORE THAN 1 TURN

Cylinder Valve
Cylinder Pressure
Adjusting Screw
5
Working Pressure
  • Adjust regulators on both tanks
  • Oxygen Tank 40-60 pounds
  • Acetylene Tank 5-7lbs

Working Pressure
Adjusting Screw
6
Torch Setup Acetylene
  • Open needle valve ¼ turn
  • Light torch with a spark igniter
  • Continue opening valve until smoke clears

Acetylene Needle Valve
7
Torch Setup Oxygen
  • Open needle valve
  • Continue opening until a neutral flame is reached

Oxygen Needle Valve
8
3 Types of Flames
  • Neutral- equal oxygen
  • acetylene
  • Excess Acetylene- results in
  • a feather look
  • Oxidizing- Short with a
  • roaring sound

9
While Working
  • Watch the Regulators on the tanks
  • Normal
  • Open working pressure slightly decreases
  • NOT Normal
  • Open working pressure creeps and slowly increases

10
Always Remember
  • Thickness of material determines pressure
    settings and torch tip size
  • Oxyacetylene welding and cutting
  • Works well with Mild and Carbon Steel
  • Does not work with materials that have high
    melting points
