MODULE 7Controllers
  • Room controllers operate the equipment in the
    IVC rooms.
  • Polycom rooms (non Roll About rooms) are
    controlled by an AMX Touch Panel (top). The AMX
    touch panel is in all IVC rooms except HBC 103.6,
    301.3, CYP 1008 and EVC 3203.
  • VTEL IVC rooms are controlled by a Penpal
    Tablet (bottom).

  • For IVC rooms with AMX Touch Panels, all the
    room equipment can be controlled within the green
    Local Sources panel located at the bottom of
    the AMX Touch Panel.

  • From left to right of the Local Sources area
    of the AMX Touch Panel there are the following
    buttons
  • Student Camera
  • Instructor Camera
  • Document Camera
  • Desktop Computer
  • Laptop Computer
  • VCR Player
  • DVD Player
  • A/V Aux. 1

Session
  • When an instructor first enters an AMX Touch
    Panel room, the touch panel will be in sleep mode
  • Click on Monitor Power (upper left corner) and
    then All to turn on all room monitors
  • all AMX Touch Panel dialog boxes after they have
    finished with them. To close, simply select the
    Close icon in the lower portion of the dialog box
    (window)

  • The Student Camera on the AMX panel is the first
    selection on the left of the Local Source (green)
    Controls.
  • Note Remember, students come 1st at ACC.
  • The Camera Control Icon just above the Student
    Camera Icon on the Local source panel opens up
    the student camera control dialog box and allows
    the instructor to control the settings for the
    student camera and microphone.

  • The student camera can be adjusted through the
    AMX panel and the mode can be changed from Manual
    to Auto (AMX Touch Panel only)
  • The Auto setting automatically focuses the
    student camera whenever the Push to Talk
    Microphones are pressed by a student
  • Manual allows the instructor to zoom in on a
    specific student location by pressing one of the
    microphone icons.
  • Note The row of microphones on the bottom,
    correspond to the first row of desk microphones
    in the room. The top row corresponds with the
    back row of the IVC room.

Camera
  • The Instructor Camera on the AMX panel is the
    second selection from the left on the Local
    Source (green) Controls.
  • Press the Camera Control Icon (above the
    Instructor Camera Icon) to change the focal
    length of the Instructor Camera

  • The Camera Function controls (located just above
    the Student Camera and Instructor Camera buttons)
    contain the following options
  • Zoom (In/Out)
  • Tilt (Up/Down Arrows)
  • Pan (Left/Right Arrows)
  • The Camera Function Control buttons can be
    adjusted on the AMX panel.

Camera
  • The AMX Touch Panels Local Source area also
    controls the Elmo Document Camera which allows
    presentation materials to be displayed on both
    the Local and Remote site monitors.
  • The Elmo is an overhead with a camera built in.

  • The AMX Touch Panels Desktop Computer icon
    displays the contents of the computer desktop,
    web sites and documents.
  • Pressing the Desktop Computer icon switches the
    camera to display the computer screen to the
    Local and Remote site monitors.

  • Laptop Computer icon displays the contents of the
    Laptop computer desktop and documents.
  • Pressing the Laptop Computer icon switches the
    camera to display the Laptops computer screen to
    both the Local and Remote site monitors.

  • The Laptop computer plugs into a 15 pin female
    connection plug labeled Input 2 on the Extron
    Switcher (black box installed either below the
    instructor console or on top of the instructor
    workstation).
  • To initiate a Laptop session, youll need a 15
    pin male cable to connect to the Extron Switcher
    Input 2
  • Connect the laptop before switching the input on
    the AMX panel, otherwise the Local and Remote
    screens will display only a blue output.

  • To play a video tape from the AMX Touch Panel,
    press the VCR Player icon located on the Local
    Sources Control Panel.
  • To FF, Rewind, Play, Stop, adjust the VCR volume
    and Eject the a VHS tape, press the Play VCR
    Control icon just above the VCR Player icon and
    the Local Source Panel

Player
  • The AMX touch panel enables the IVC instructor to
    play DVDs.
  • Insert a DVD in the VHS/DVD player.
  • Select the DVD PLAYER icon on the Local Sources
    Panel.
  • The DVD Control icon immediately above the DVD
    Player icon opens a dialog box to control DVD
    recordings.
  • Skip Back, Skip Next, Stop, Eject and DVD Volume
    controls are available.
  • Press the Config button to navigate DVD menus

  • The A/V Aux 1 icon is located at the far right of
    the Local Sources (green) panel. This option is
    not operational.

Module 7 Controllers AMX Room Record Video
  • Select the REC VCR CONTROL icon in the far
    right of the AMX touch panel just above the Local
    Source Panel.
  • An instructor can choose to record the Near End
    only, Far End only or Auto (records both near
    and far)
  • The Auto setting is recommended and will record
    the images selected from the Local site and the
    audio from the Remote site
  • Note Make sure there is a tape in the RECORD VCR
    before you attempt to record an IVC class session.

  • The Room Volume can be adjusted or muted using
    the AMX panel.
  • Press the down or up arrow to decrease or
    increase the room volume

  • The Room Volume can be muted by pressing the Mute
    Outgoing icon in the lower right corner of the
    AMX panel or by pressing the top button on the
    Instructor Microphone

  • The contents of the Smartboard (whiteboard) can
    be displayed at both the Local and Remote sites.
  • Before anything written on the Smartboard can be
    displayed, the Smart Tech Notebook software must
    be opened.
  • Select the Desktop Computer icon from the Local
    Source Panel.
  • Open the Smart Tools Notebook software on the
    computer desktop
  • Write on the Smartboard.

IVC Session
  • The AMX Touch panel is used to turn on and off
    the IVC room monitors and projectors.
  • Select the Monitor Power icon in the upper left
    corner
  • Select the ALL icon in the middle of the Monitor
    Power icon
  • Close all AMX Touch Panel windows (CLOSE icon in
    the lower left corner of the dialog boxes)
  • Turn off the Elmo Document camera
  • Leave one of the room lights on
  • Leave the computer ON

VTEL Session
  • To start a VTEL session, turn on the monitors by
    doing one of the following
  • Point the TV Remote Control Device at the room
    monitors and switch them on or
  • Manually turn the monitors on by pressing each of
    the Monitors ON buttons.

  • The Student Camera selection on the VTEL Penpal
    is the first icon at the top of the panel (just
    remember students come first at ACC).

  • The Instructor Camera selection on the VTEL
    Penpal is the second (2) icon from the top of
    the panel.

Camera Controls
  • The Instructor Camera pan (left/right arrows),
    tilt (up/down arrows), and zoom in Telephoto
    (), zoom out Wide Angle (-) can be adjusted
    on the VTEL Penpal using the Camera Control
    panel.
  • The Instructor Camera also has Camera Presets.

  • The VTEL Penpal selection for the Document Camera
    is the third icon down from the top.
  • Note Icon 4 is not operational

Module 7 Controllers VTEL Room Video and DVD
  • A VHS tape or DVD can be played in a VTEL Penpal
    room by choosing the VHS icon from the Penpals
    Local Source Panel.

  • The computer desktop can be displayed via the
    VTEL Penpal, by selecting the PC button (below
    the video icon) and the PC Icon within the View
    window on the Penpal tablet.

  • An IVC session can be recorded by selecting the
    Remote or Local icon from the VTEL VCR RECORD
    icon (yellow and green section of the VTEL
    Penpal).

  • To adjust or mute the room volume using the VTEL
    Penpal, select the - Speaker icon to decrease
    the audio or the icon to increase the rooms
    audio volume.
  • To mute the outgoing audio to the remote site,
    press the microphone icon at the bottom of the
    Audio window

  • Select the PC icon from the Penpal tablet (Local
    Camera Control Panel AND the PC icon from the
    View panel (see VTEL Rooms-PC slide)
  • Smart Board Notebook icon from the desktop
    computer.

  • Touch the Smartboard anywhere on the board (the
    HBC Smartboard only needs to be touched and it
    will display to the Near and Far locations).
  • Write on the Smartboard.
  • To clear the board, erase completely and press
    the Start/Reset button in the lower right corner
    of the board.

IVC Session
  • Use the Remote control device to turn off all the
    Monitors or Video Projectors
  • Another way to turn off the monitors is to
    manually turn each one off individually
  • Turn off the Elmo Document camera
  • Turn off all but one room light before leaving
    the classroom
  • Leave the Computer ON
