EDP Mission
  • To give something back to the triathlon community
    that is consistent with the mission and founding
    principles of Team Psycho Triathlete (TPT), and
    its goal of promoting excellence in triathlon

Team Psycho - Background
  • Founded in the metro-Boston area in 1992
  • Target members local, elite level triathletes
    that desire a support structure to attain their
    triathlon goals
  • Focus on being a racing club, with members
    committed to the racing spirit of the group
  • Team Psycho members are positive ambassadors for
    the sport, not just the fastest athletes
  • Members posses Psycho Karma, a set of
    intangible qualities beyond pure athletic talent,
    including spirit, commitment, in addition to
    balancing triathlon goals with the demands of
    school, work, family and other pursuits

    highest level of success in triathlon

EDP Program Description
  • Sponsored athletes will receive a grant
  • Initial grant amount is targeted to be 2,500 per
    athlete per year
  • Initially supports two athletes, ideally one male
    and one female
  • Grant program shall take the form of travel
    reimbursement to facilitate travel to ITU points
    races
  • Objective to facilitate athletes attendance at
    3-5 races during the triathlon season
  • Grants shall be awarded on annual basis,
    renewable at the discretion of the TPT board of
    directors based on a defined set of criteria
  • Ideally, an athlete shall be supported by the EDP
    for more than one year
  • Athletes will receive support from the EDP
    Advisory Board, composed of elite triathletes
  • board will provide advice, informal coaching,
    etc.
  • A designated TP Athlete Liaison will coordinate
    communication between TP and sponsored athletes

EDP Candidate Profile
  • Athletes from the New England area
  • May have a complimentary background in sports,
    not simply a background in triathlon
  • Athletes should be focused on attaining success
    at the Olympic distance, participating in ITU
    type races during the course of the year
  • At present, no age limitation exists, although
    younger athletes may be more suited to the
    demands of ITU, draft legal type races
  • Beginning in 2003, athletes must attend the 1 or
    2 designated TPT EDP local races to be considered
    for the grant program
  • Beginning in 2004, preference will be given to
    existing TP members

EDP Selection Process
  • TPT will solicit applications from a wide variety
    of triathletes and other athletes interested in
    triathlon (application form is available at
    http//www.teampsycho.com/EDP)
  • Athletes will submit applications in the
    fall-winter timeframe
  • TP Board of Directors and Financial Sponsors will
    evaluate applications, determine pool of final
    candidates
  • TP Board of Directors and EDP Financial Sponsors
    will vote on candidates, select athletes to
    sponsor
  • Grant will be awarded to athlete by March 15,
    2003
  • In return, athlete makes certain commitments to
    TP
  • At the end of the season, performance will be
    evaluated, and continued sponsorship will be
    determined

EDP Athlete Deliverables
  • As a TP Sponsored Athlete, he or she commits to
  • Race at designated local TP EDP races during
    course of sponsorship term (one or two races
    annually)
  • Wear TP uniform at local races and ITU approved
    TP version for international races
  • Communicate with TP athlete liaison on
    semi-monthly basis, at minimum
  • Submit travel/race expenses to TP BOD for
    approval
  • Serve as TP ambassador for triathlon during
    program duration
  • Attend several TP sponsored events during the
    course of his or her involvement with EDP (TP
    weekend, social functions, etc.)
  • Develop an EDP plan defining races they will
    participate in and key events they will attend
  • Submit a race report to the board after each race
  • Summarize performance at end of season, including
    goals met, races completed, times, evaluation of
    performance and progress, feedback on program
