How Scanners Work
  • Scanners emit a laser beam that reflects off
    objects.
  • The time it takes for a return of the laser and
    angle of the mirrors are converted and
    transferred to a laptop and stored as individual
    points in a 3-dimensional viewer.

A Typical Falk PLI Scan Job
  • Determine what the client needs/wants done.
  • Use scan targets for tie-in to local coordinate
    system and verify position of scanner is good
    from start to finish.

  • Blast Furnace
  • Falk PLI can gather 3-dimensional information of
    ductwork before and after sections are removed.
    Falk PLI then can gather information on the new
    pieces to be installed. Creating 3D models of the
    pieces allows Falk PLI to assist our clients in
    making necessary adjustments to allow for a fit
    on the first lift. This work flow expedites the
    normal process of lift/check/adjust until the fit
    is correct. By adjusting the pieces on the
    ground, we give our clients a quality
    construction that has never been done before.

    information to determine if a newly installed top
    drive was defective or if the structure it
    operates on was out of tolerance.
  • Falk PLI gathered information to analyze the
    dolly rails and derrick structure. The
    information was gathered at several positions to
    determine the unusual failure of the top drive.

How Laser Trackers Work
  • Emit a laser that locks onto the center of an
    SMR
  • The tracker has the robotic ability to follow the
    SMR as long as the SMR is aimed at the tracker
    and there is no direct inference in the beam
