Title: Infrared Imaging in Medicine
1CTHERM for Medical IR Imaging
University of Glamorgan School of Computing
2WHY CTHERM ?
- Old IR cameras still technically OK
- but.
- no software support by manufacturers
- software under-utilises hardware
- Different software required for each
- camera
- Most packages not tailored for medical
- applications
3OUR SOLUTION
- Create a package that
- fully utilises existing camera
- can work with as many modern cameras
- as possible
- has specialised medical routines built in
- can work with existing images

10INDUSTRY STANDARD FRAME GRABBER
- PAL or NTSC input (s-video or composite video)
- 512 x 682 pixel resolution, 8 bits per pixel
11THE PROBLEMS OF VERSATILITY
- D/A --gt A/D conversion introduces noise
- No information about camera setting in PAL or
- NTSC image (range, offset, emissivity)
- High resolution cameras under-utilised
- (NTSC resolution 640x480, PAL 732x549)
- Dynamic resolution limited to 8 bits per pixel
