Title: Common Reference Scenario CRS: Cornerstone of Single Integrated Air Picture Capability Analysis

1
Common Reference Scenario (CRS) Cornerstone of
Single Integrated Air Picture Capability Analysis
  • Eric Byrd
  • JSSEO CRS Manager
  • Joint SIAP System Engineering Organization

2
Agenda
  • CRS Role
  • CRS as a Tool
  • Building a CRS
  • CRS Structure
  • CRS Functions
  • Summary

3
Understanding the JSSEO and the CRS
  • To understand the purpose and requirement of the
JSSEO CRS we must first understand the mission of
the Joint SIAP System Engineering Organization
    (JSSEO) and its analysis activities.

4
JSSEO Mission
  • Institute a disciplined joint system engineering
process to address and resolve interoperability
problems in the implementation of the Joint Data
    Network (JDN)
  • Develop the Single Integrated Air Picture (SIAP)
component of the Theater Air Missile Defense
    (TAMD) Integrated Architecture (IA)

5
CRS Consistent Analysis Tool
  • The CRS provides a foundation for analysis in
    support of the JSSEO Mission
  • Scenarios have an established linage and a
capability to present a full spectrum of
    activities
  • Provides a controlled simulation environment
    supported by an extensive configuration
    management processes
  • Encourages cross correlation of analysis results

The CRS provides the basis upon which JSSEO
analysis is conducted
6
Building the CRSSelecting the Campaigns
  • The CRS scenarios begin with established
    campaigns that provide
  • Extensive record of past use
  • An established credibility lineage
  • Applicability

CAMPAIGN
7
Building the CRS (cont.)Developing the Vignette
  • The vignette provides a common basis for the SIAP
    analysis
  • To a selected portion of the campaign, details
    are added to better define
  • Threat
  • Friendly forces
  • Geographic environment

VIGNETTE
CAMPAIGN
8
Building the CRS (cont.)Developing the Excursion
  • The excursion is a portion of the vignette that
is further enhanced to support specific analysis
activities and to create a more detailed SIAP
    environment
  • Excursions include tactics, rules of engagement,
    and detailed accredited component simulations
  • Analysis using different excursions can be
correlated since they share a well documented
    common vignette environment

EXCURSION/ENGINEERING
VIGNETTE
CAMPAIGN
9
Building the CRS (cont.)Developing the Network
Design
  • Provides the communication structure of the
    command and control environment
  • Establishes interface and connectivity
    requirements
  • Establishes channels to support interoperability
    activities within the simulated environment

CRS Structure
  • Campaign
  • Reviewed by the Intelligence Community
  • Vignette
  • Verified as operationally credible through the
Joint Theater Air and Missile Defense
    Organization (JTAMDO)
  • Excursion/Engineering Scenario
  • Reviewed by the Services to verify
    implementation, tactics, and analysis objectives
  • Network Design
  • Developed in conjunction with the Joint Data
    Network Team
