    subscribe to the podcast and listen later

Creating a Podcast
  • Make an MP3 or M4a file
  • Preproduction - write script, find music, assign
    roles, etc
  • Production using audio editing app to record
    Audacity, Garageband, mic, etc
  • Upload the MP3 to web server
  • Create web page or use free weblog -Word press,
    LiveJournal, Blogger
  • Link to URL of MP3or M4a on web page to listen
  • Create XML file RSS2.0 feed with enclosures-
    (Feedburner online or Feeder 29.99)
  • Link to URL of XML file on web page
  • Submit podcast to directories
  • Visitors subscribe through iTunes, directors or
    web page links

PreProduction
  • Preproduction takes at least 3/4 of production
    time
  • Develop format - host, topics and segments?
  • Need a creative, catchy title
  • Research, write and rehearse scripts
  • Students develop a podcasting voice
  • Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse!
  • Have students listen to sample podcast
  • Who is audience - students, parents, etc.
  • Length should not be long 8 to 10 minutes

Recording
  • External mic better than built -in
  • Recommend Logitec noise filtering headset
  • Set sound preferences of system to recognize
    external mic
  • Best app is GarageBand on MAC or Audacity on PC
  • Can also use browser based app or iPod with mic
  • GarageBand is nonlinear but easiest to record in
    order of script
  • Record short pieces less chance for mistakes
  • Leave space for intro, outro and bumpers

  • Talking too fast
  • Honor periods
  • Drop off end of words
  • Popping ps
  • Puking using a fake voice
  • Ware mic practically next to eyes
  • Eating the mic too close
  • Touching the mic
  • Enunciate clearly
  • Speaking a normal volume speak to friend
  • Prepare and practice
  • Record in short portions and then put together
  • Reduce the background noise
  • Smile while reading

  • Edit clips
  • Eliminate pauses and interruptions
  • Add intro, outro and bumpers
  • Use loops from GarageBand
  • Audacity needs to download podcast safe music
  • Adjust music tracks for ducking
  • When perfect send to iTunes and convert it to MP3
  • Place MP3 on web server

  • Once you created your audio program and
    uploaded it to a web server, make links to it on

    an RSS feed which converts your audio files into
    a bone fide podcast.
