Where is CA-MRSA Found?
  • Staph is commonly found in our environment and on
    the surface of our skin.

Clinical Manifestations of CA-MRSA
  • Boils or draining pimples
  • Looks like spider bites or bug bites
  • Sores that wont heal
  • Red areas of skin that may feel warm to the touch
  • Abscesses
  • Systemic infections (e.g. pneumonia, blood
    infections) much less common

6
How is CA-MRSA Transmitted?
  • Direct skin-t0-skin contact (with wound drainage)
  • Sharing personal items (linens, towels, razors,
    toothbrushes, bar soap, clothing)

washing with soap and water or using an alcohol
based hand sanitizer and showering immediately
    after participating in exercise.
  • Avoid sharing personal items (towels, razors,
etc.) that come into contact with your bare skin.
Use a barrier (glove or towel) between your skin
and shared equipment such as weight training
    benches.
  • Maintain a clean environment by establishing
    cleaning procedures for frequently touched
surfaces and surfaces that come into contact with
    peoples skin.

What Are We Doing in KPS?
  • Athletic coaches will train all their athletes
about the need for proper hygiene. This will
include reasons why they should not share
equipment, clothing, bars of soap, towels,
    razors, etc.
  • The athletes will also be informed they are
expected to report all incidents of skin trauma
(cuts and abrasions) to the coach or school nurse
    for proper attention.
  • Football helmets and pads will be disinfected at
the end of a season or when a student hands in a
piece of equipment and before it is distributed
to another player on the team.

12
What Are We Doing in KPS?
  • Weight room equipment and surfaces will be
    cleaned daily.
  • Physical education teachers and coaches will
train students how to follow gym etiquette where
the last one using the equipment wipes it clean.
  • Extra clothing that is made available in gym
classes when students are not prepared will be
laundered first before lending to a student.
  • Teachers will be required to report all students
with uncovered wounds to the nurses office.
