Progress On SMART TS Adoption USER GROWTH In
April of 2006, Smart TS, a new source code search
tool was piloted.  It allowed a single repository
for all source code, copybooks, JCL, Includes,
etc. across all platforms.  The tool allowed
developers to quickly search code and utilize hot
links for evaluating findings and impact
analysis.  Our employees have found benefit from
the tool. Searches that they use to submit via
batch jobs, that took 30 to 40 minutes to run and
get a response, now the same search takes
seconds.  Below you can see the adoption curve
of the number of employees using the tool.  As of
March 08 over 300 employees have utilized the
tool, this includes Akron, Chicago, Wichita,
India, Overland Park, etc

Progress On SMART TS Adoption Savings and
Searches You can see from the chart below we've
grown from a low of 700 searches per month during
2006 to nearly 9,000 searches per month in
January and February 2008. There is no denying
the value the employees receive from the tool. 
Quicker analysis of code during issue resolution,
improved  impact analysis and reduced analysis
time. Each of these as a result of employees
having the capability to perform 100's of
searched in the time it took them to do 1 in the
past. If on a very conservative note we assumed
that each search provided an increase in
productivity by 10 minutes over the older
antiquated methods. It's provided us with nearly
1400 hours of improved productivity per month.
