Title: Xray Survey System for Barrel TRT modules

1
X-ray Survey Systemfor Barrel TRT modules
  • K. McFarlane
  • Hampton University
  • Krakow, 1-Jun-1999

2
Summary
  • Purpose gain and wire-position surveys on
    completed barrel TRT modules.
  • Requirements
  • Proposed X-ray survey system (XRSS)
  • Tentative schedule

3
Requirements
  • Gain to 2 at at least 14 points on every straw
  • XY position to 0.05 mm at 4 points on every
    straw
  • Z position to 1 mm
  • Complete each survey in one day

4
X-ray survey system (XRSS)
  • Micro-focus 80kV tube
  • XY linear motions with resolution of 0.01mm in X
    and 0.2mm in Z
  • GasSiplex front-end chips
  • Multiplexer and multi-channel analyzer DAQ
  • PC-based readout and control
  • Analysis by paw or ROOT

5
Schematic
6
X-ray scanning system
  • X-ray tube will operate up to 80 kV, 60W and
    2.5mA maximum
  • Spot size of 0.01-0.05mm
  • Beam collimated to approximately 0.05mm wide and
    10-20mm long
  • Area 1500mm (Z) by 300mm (X) min.
  • X-coordinate positioning to 0.02mm
  • Z-coordinate to 0.5mm or better

7
Front-end electronics
  • Based on the GasSiplex chip
  • One chip per stamp board, operated in
    transparent mode
  • Board to be designed and built

8
GPX board
9
Multiplexer and MCA DAQ
  • Analog output from any chip steered to one of
four multi-channel analyzers, giving a maximum
    acquisition rate of 400 kHz
  • CXS (control and cross-point switch module) to be
    designed and built

10
CXS module
11
Cross-point switch
12
MCA system
FAST/ComTec MCD4SYS
13
PC-based readout, control, and analysis
  • FAST/ComTec MCD4SYS
  • Windows NT
  • BridgeView
  • Paw on NT (CERN supported)

14
EHS
  • Must operate X-ray system inside approved
    enclosure with interlocks

15
Schedule
  • Final mechanical design 1-Aug-1999
  • EHS in place 1-Aug-1999
  • GPX, CXS - discussions with JLab electronics
    group. Final electronic design 1-Sep-1999
    tentative
  • System assembled 1-Nov-1999 tentative
