Accountability !?
  • QSA Queensland Studies Authority
  • Sets the Senior curriculum
  • Issues any Senior Certification at the end of
Year 12 (keeping in mind that Year 11 studies
    count toward this certification)

4
Formative
assessment
  • is used for school grades
  • does not count toward exit grade on Senior
    statement
  • is used for skill development and practise
  • is used for school grades
  • is used in calculating the exit grade on Senior
    statement
  • used to demonstrate skill level

5
Reports
Exams
All summative work (and sometimes formative) is
collected and put into a folder
called a folio. They prove
what standard of work
the student can produce.
Assignments
6
What will my child receive at the end of Year 12?
It depends on what subjects they do and well they
do in them!
All students will get from the QSA A Senior
Statement (which lists all the recorded
subjects/qualifications that they have
completed over 10, 11 and 12) Just make sure Mr
Wotton gets a copy of any certificates or
qualifications ( like AMEB Grade 7 Piano)
Any VET qualifications should be registered by
their RTO with the QSA (like a certificate III
in Hospitality)
7
What will my child receive at the end of Year 12?
Some students may get from the QSA (if they meet
the appropriate criteria) A QCE (Qld
Certificate of Education) (which requires 20
credits of study at a minimum of a SA standard
note there are some concessions) This can draw
from Authority subjects, Authority Registered
Subjects, VET certificates, etc An OP
(Overall Position) (which requires 20 semester
units of Authority subjects sit the QCS
test)
It is possible... to get one, the other, both, or
neither!
8
Queensland Certificate of Education
  • An overview of Queenslands new senior schooling
    qualification for parents and students

9
A new law for young Queenslanders
  • Students stay at school until they finish Year 10
or turn 16, whichever comes first
  • After that, if not working at least 25 hours per
    week, young people need to
  • stay in education or training for 2 more years,
    or
  • get a QCE, or
  • get a Certificate III vocational qualification
    or higher, or
  • turn 17, whichever comes first

10
How does the QCE work?
  • a significant amount of learning
  • at a set standard of achievement
  • a literacy and numeracy requirement
  • greater flexibility in what where when
  • learning can occur
  • based on students successfully completing 20
    credits

11
A set standard of achievement
  • For Authority and Authority-registered subjects,
the agreed standard is a Sound Level of
    Achievement.
  • For VET certificates, the agreed standard is
    Competence.
  • For other courses of study recognised or approved
by the QSA the agreed standard is a Pass or the
    equivalent.

Stage 1 Planning
  • In 2008 (Year 10), your child undertook career
planning to develop their intended learning
    options (ILO).
  • A SET plan was developed in PD with Mrs
    Henderson.
  • The career plan
  • structured each students learning around their
    abilities, interests and ambitions
  • mapped out what, where and how they could study
during their senior phase of learning 10, 11
    and 12
  • was agreed between students, their parents and
school (you should have signed one)
  • Should be reviewed regularly by both of us
    (students and school staff)

15
Stage 2 Registration
  • The College has registered all our students with
the QSA (hopefully our new students schools did
    as well!)
  • Schools were to have registered
  • all students in Year 10 in 2008

16
Stage 3 Learning account
  • Registration with the QSA
  • automatically opens a Learning account for each
    student
  • is password protected
  • is used to record what, where and when students
    study
  • records results towards a QCE
