- November 11, 1918 Instead of a self defence
organisation the Estonian Defence League (Eesti
Kaitse Liit) which had been engaged in
territorial defence during the Estonian War of
Independence was established. - June 17, 1940 The Soviet occupation started
liquidation of the Republic of Estonia and the
Estonian Defence League simultaneously. - February 17, 1990 - re-establishing of the
Defence League in Järvakandi
4The Goal of the Defence League
- is to rise the populations willingness to
defend the independence of Estonia and the
constitutional order.
5The Defence League Act
- February 8, 1999 - The Estonian Parliament
(Riigikogu) adopted the Defence League Act, which
provides the position of the Defence League in
society and national defence, its main tasks,
structure, legal basis for operations and control
and co-operation with other persons.

- Active member - a citizen of the Republic of
Estonia, at least 17 years old. - Young member - a citizen of the Republic of
Estonia, at least 15 years old. - Honorary member - an Estonian or foreign
citizen, who has provided remarkable service to
the Defence League. - Supportive member - an Estonian or foreign
citizen, who recognises the aims of the Defence
League and contributes to their achievement.

(Naiskodukaitse)
19Goal of Naiskodukaitse
- The goal of Naiskodukaitse is to support the
Defence League in their task to defend all
resources, - the population, territory and
property - belonging to the Republic of Estonia
and in developing the defence initiative of the
population. - In Naiskodukaitse you may be in medical, catering
or communications service, leader of the youth
organisation (Kodutütred), an instructor, head of
a structural unit of NKK.

- An Estonian citizen, at least 17 years of age can
be an active member of Naiskodukaitse. - Naiskodukaitse has active, honorary and
supportive members.

- Total 72 hours, you have to pass an exam to
finish the basic training course.

1930 - A member of the organisation can be an Estonian
citizen, at least 8 years old

- Noored Kotkad in a gliding camp in 2002

- The organisation was established by a resolution
of the Defence Leagues Board of Elders on May
27, 1930 - Members of the organisation can be all male
citizens of the Republic of Estonia from 8 to 18
years of age.

- to develop stability, friendliness, honesty,
kindness and good manners in young people - to develop diligence, leadership skills,
decision-making powers, persistence, independence
and self-control - to deepen love for their home and country,
prepare them for service in the defence forces - to provide skills for helping those in need.
