Activities Facilities The majority of young
people highlighted a lack of facilities Many
wanted activities extended to be open more
Trips came up as popular Some young people
think they have a good range of clubs, parks,
activities, etc, others gave mixed
responses More outdoor facilities to play and
meet such as shelters and seating somewhere
just to chill out A lack of facilities can lead
some into inappropriate behaviour Issues about
alcohol, drugs and violence came up More access
to sports and health / fitness facilities was
highlighted.

Transport Access Young people could be
supported better to access education and training
venues, jobs and leisure activities. If prices
need to be cheaper and for the rural areas they
need more frequent buses and ones that are more
reliable. In some parts of Blackburn the access
to buses was shown as a positive about where
they live. The large number of cars, parking and
noise pollution was something young people in
the NW wanted looking at.

Voice Young people in Darwen thought they need a
forum at which their views and opinions could be
aired As well as a central point of contact
about youth issues, things to do, etc

Jobs Training Young people across different
areas also wanted more job opportunities,
especially holiday jobs, work experience and
apprenticeships. Good levels of community
involvement and volunteering were highlighted in
the NW along with the desire for more learning
opportunities.

Cohesion Quite a lot of young people wanted more
interaction between diverse communities, both in
and between schools and in other activities such
as in community centres. Young people in the
SW had mixed views about their neighbourhood,
some think groups dont mix others felt people
all knew each other quite well. Those in the SE
thought their community felt close. More
intergenerational projects where better
understanding between ages can be generated,
this was raised in all areas.

Environment The state of the area in the SW is
a concern for some young people saying they
feel ashamed of the area that demolition needs
speeding up. There were mixed views about the
cleanliness of some areas with young people
saying streets and open spaces were generally
clean tidy but others saying. Graffiti and
littering was raised as a problem in just a few
areas.
