Helped pick out merchandise from sales
representative that came to the store. Went to
trade show in Livonia and assisted with buying
decisions for the store for Fall/Winter seasons.
Decisions based on what styles and colors had
been doing well for the store, trend forecasting,
and what fit Shapes image.
8Pricing
Helped with pricing of new, sale, and clearance
items. Marked up about 2 to 3 times the
wholesale price, sometimes more. Items that were
not selling were marked down 50-75. Assisted
in deciding markdowns for Sidewalk Sale.
9Visual Merchandising
Changed the displays in the front of the
store. Made sure the colors complemented each
other and fit within the color scheme of the
garments in that section of the store.

Arranged new merchandise in an aesthetically
appealing fashion.
Made a display with accessories consisting

Things I did everyday included writing receipts
for customers by hand and straightening the
clothing racks. I also answered questions and
assisted with fitting rooms.

learn about the basics of fashion buying. Common
terminology and math methods were learned, as
well as factors effecting buying decisions.
6-Month Plan Purpose To successfully calculate
a 6-month plan for the womens denim department
of HM using previous years figures and to

21Fashion Production and Promotion The purpose of
this class was to help put on Threads, the annual
Apparel Merchandising and Design student run
fashion show. I was in the Reception and
Exhibition committee and helped with getting
projects to display, food, decorations, and the
set up for the show.

importance of visual merchandising in retail.
The elements and principles of design were key to
keep in mind and were used in various types of

Display Purpose To work in a group to create a

Target. This was done with the making of an

27Fashion Merchandising This class helped me to
utilize my knowledge of the fashion cycle and
trend forecasting. The focus of the class was on
fashion production, adoption, and distribution.
Trend Forecasting Assignment Purpose Predict
fashion trends for Spring 2009 and effectively
research colors, fabrics, moods, silhouettes, and
details. Make trend boards of each category and

29Textile Analysis In this class I learned about
and participated in textile testing. I also was
able to develop my knowledge of the properties of
different fabrics and yarns. Technical Data
Sheet Purpose To decide the compatibility of
lining and fashion fabrics for a skirt based on 5
structural and 5 performance attributes using
different tests and equipment.

31Apparel Design Analysis This class explained
the basics of the fashion industry. We learned
about Ready-to-Wear, Haute Couture, styles,
patterns, and designers. This class also focused
on the elements and principles of design and

33Computer-Aided Design For this course, we
utilized Adobe Illustrator to make garments and
patterns. We learned what is aesthetically
pleasing and cohesive in design keeping in mind
our target market and the practicality of our
designs in terms of cost and simplicity. Pattern
Assignment Purpose To become more familiar with
Adobe Illustrator tools and to compose a
successful pattern based on elements of greeting

Line Purpose To create a nature-inspired
toddlers line for Rocawear for Spring 2009
including sleep, casual, formal, and outdoor

37Advanced Computer-Aided Design This course
continued with the lessons of the first CAD
course, but focused more on pattern and weave
design. Using Lectra Systems, I created clothing
designs, patterns, and weaves. This class also
focused on the cleaning of flat and tonal prints
that had been scanned in, so that they could be
turned into repeatable tiles. Applying Prints to
Garments Purpose To become familiar with Kaledo
Style, Print, and Weave. Clean flat and tonal
prints and make colorways. Create a weave with
colorways. Show ability to apply each of the

39Painting This class went over basic painting
techniques and consisted mostly of rendering
still lifes. Balance and composition were the two
most important aspects of each piece, next to the
overall quality of the painting. Still
Life Purpose To render a still life accurately
and to create a balanced composition.

41Ceramics The focus of this class was on learning
basic hand-building skills with clay. We learned
how to make clay, vessels, plinths, lids, and
sculptures via coil and slab building
methods. Historical/Contemporary
Project Purpose To create a piece that tied in
a current issue with a historical aspect of
ceramics. My current issue related to the
second-hand clothing industry in Africa and my
historical aspect related to the abstract
ceramic figures made in Nigeria throughout their
history. I used a combination of techniques to
make this piece.
