    Fellowship applicant
  • All applicants must have fulfilled obligations
    from previous ARC grants (including reporting
    obligations)

Chief Investigator Eligibility
  • Active researcher serious commitment
  • Reside predominantly in Aust
  • Meet one of the following
  • be an employee of an Australian higher education
    institution, museum or herbarium. The applicant
    must derive at least 50 per cent of her/his
    salary from, that institution or
  • be the holder of an adjunct appointment, or
    equivalent, at an Australian higher education
    institution, museum or herbarium or
  • Be the holder of a Federation Fellowship.

Not eligible as CI
  • Notwithstanding her/his eligibility under the
    criteria above, researchers in the following
    categories are not eligible to apply as a Chief
    Investigator
  • undergraduate students, or
  • postgraduate students (unless eligible to be a CI
    because of employment and then only for research
    which lies outside the scope of the postgraduate
    studies), or
  • researchers who derive more than 50 per cent of
    their salary from organisations outside the
    higher education sector that are funded primarily
    for research from State or Commonwealth
    Government sources. These include, but are not
    limited to
  • Defence Science and Technology Organisation
    (DSTO)
  • Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research
    Organization (CSIRO)
  • Geoscience Australia (GA)
  • Australian Nuclear Science and Technology
    Organisation (ANSTO)
  • Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS)
  • State/Territory Research and Development (RD)
    organisations

Partner Investigator Eligibility
  • Researchers who are not eligible to be Chief
    Investigators but who are providing significant
    commitment, intellectual input, relevant
    expertise and significant financial contribution
    to the project can apply as Partner
    Investigators.
  • To be eligible to apply as a Partner
    Investigator, a researcher must
  • be ineligible to be a Chief Investigator, and
  • demonstrate a significant contribution of funds
    (other than salary) or other material resources
    from the researchers organisation for the
    proposed project (having regard to the total cost
    of the project and the relative contribution of
    each Chief Investigator).

Eligibility continued
  • Fellowships
  • APD awarded PhD since 1/3/02, or submit by end
    of 2005
  • ARF/QEII not more than 8 yrs since award of PhD
  • APF outstanding, international reputation
  • Eligibility exemption request to be submitted to
    ORPS by 19 January 2005

LIMITS ON APPLICATIONS AND GRANTS 2 LIMIT RULE
  • No more than 2 apps from CI or Fellow
  • No more than 4 apps from PI
  • CI or Fellow - Max of 2 apps until 2 grant limit
    reached (if 1 grant then only 1 app)
  • If eligible to submit two apps one must involve
    another CI
  • Only one application as a sole CI/Fellow
  • Submitting over limit results in exclusion

  • CI s/Fellows Max 2 grants. At least one with
    other Investigators
  • PI Max 4 grants
  • Limits on grants applies to 2006 funding
  • Applicants who are substantially associated
    with a Commonwealth-funded research centre (ARC
    CoE, SRC, CRC, NHMRC Program grant) may hold only
    one DiscoveryProjects grant.
  • Fed Fell Max 2 grants

EARLY CAREER RESEARCHERS
  • ARC Identifies funds specifically to support ECR
    applicants.
  • To be assessed as an ECR app all applicants must
    satisfy criteria
  • Criteria one holding a PhD or equivalent awarded
    since 1/3/2000. Exceptional circumstances may
    warrant waiver see Funding Rules
  • Success Rate for ECR only apps in 2005 Rnd was
    22.8

  • Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship (APD)
  • Australian Research Fellowship (ARF)/QEII

  • Australian Professorial Fellowship (APF)

    from School funds

  • (Email arc_at_research.uq.edu.au - Include in
    subject heading Request for GAMS Id). Include
    in text of message Full name, Department, Date
    of birth. GAMS Id from 2003 will remain.
