WINDOW INTO NORTHERN ASIA-PACIFIC
  • The Northern Asia-Pacific Division is the most
populous division in the world. It includes
China, Japan, Mongolia, North and South Korea,
and Taiwan, and is home to 1.5 billion people.
Almost 563,000 Adventists live in these
countries, which makes a ratio of one Adventist
for nearly every 2,700 people. Each of the
countries in this division faces unique
    challenges.

WINDOW INTO NORTHERN ASIA-PACIFICJAPAN
  • Japan is a modern, secular society. More than 80
percent of the population claims no personal
religion, though most Japanese follow Buddhist or
    Shinto traditions.
  • Less than 2 percent of the population is
Christian, and only 15,000 are Adventists. With
just one Adventist for every 8,460 people, Japan
is second only to North Korea as the least
    evangelized country in Northern Asia.
  • Growth is occurring among 450,000 ethnic
Japanese who have lived for generations in South
America and speak Portuguese or Spanish. Two
    Korean congregations and several English-speaking
    congregations also are thriving.
  • The largest ethnic minority in Japan, the
    Mandarin Chinese-speaking people, are virtually
unreached. Part of this quarters Thirteenth
Sabbath Offering will help establish the first
Chinese-language Adventist church in Tokyo, Japan.

WINDOW INTO NORTHERN ASIA-PACIFICMONGOLIA
  • Mongolia is a young church with some 1,200
Adventist believers, most under 35 years old.
One-fifth of these are college students who have
moved to the capital city, Ulaanbaatar to study.
Those who cant afford the university dormitories
must stay with family members or friends or seek
other cheap alternatives to survive while they
study. They come from poor families and struggle
to pay their room and board.
  • Part of this quarters Thirteenth Sabbath
Offering will provide an Adventist dormitory
where these students can live while they study.
They will grow spiritually and learn leadership
skills to help them become tomorrows church
    leaders.

WINDOW INTO NORTHERN ASIA-PACIFICCHINESE
SPEAKING PEOPLE
  • Mandarin Chinese is spoken by about 1 billion
people around the world. Yet relatively little
material has been prepared for this vast
audience. The China Union Mission is translating
existing television programs and preparing new
programs for Chinese speakers. Theyve leased
time on a major broadcast satellite, are
producing programs, and are developing web sites
to make the programming available 24 hours a day.
  • Part of our Thirteenth Sabbath Offering will
help fund this endeavor to bring Gods love to
    those who speak Chinese.
