About NABA
  • Started in 1969 by nine African Americans in New
    York City.
  • At the time there were over 100,000 CPAs in the
    U.S. and only 136 were African American.
  • Since then, NABA has been the leader in expanding
    the influence of minority professionals in the
    fields of accounting and finance.
  • Today there are over 5,000 African American CPAs
    in the U.S.
  • Current President, Norman Jenkins, CPA
  • His theme is Achieving Excellence Through
    Leadership

Goals of NABA
  • To encourage and develop the technical skills of
    its members
  • To encourage and assist students to enter the
    accounting curriculum
  • To provide opportunities for members and
    cooperative relations with other students
  • To ensure long-term financial stability and
    provide adequate resources to implement chapter
    programs
  • To represent the interests of current and
    prospective minority accounting students
  • To market the Association to its members

Objectives of NABA
  • Cultivate interest among minority youth in the
    fields of accounting, business, finance, and
    information technology
  • Assist the corporate community in these areas
    with their strategic staffing and diversity
    initiatives at the entry level, middle
    management, and senior executive levels
  • Become the premiere professional business
    oriented association in the minority community as
    well as the business consultants of choice to the
    African American community

Criteria for a Student Chapter
  • Faculty Advisor
  • Lisa McKinney
  • Members
  • Full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate
    student
  • Major in accounting, finance, or business with
    the intention of entering the accounting
    profession
  • Persons who have been employed in the accounting
    profession on a full-time basis are not eligible

Criteria for Student Chapter
  • 3. Membership Dues
  • Annual amount to be submitted to the National
    Office (determined by the National Board of
    Directors)
  • Chapter may assess its members dues (cannot
    exceed the max determined by the National Board
    of Directors)

  • Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP)
  • Objective is to increase the understanding of
    accounting and business career opportunities
    among high school students from underrepresented
    ethnic groups

    difference in their chapter and their community

  • Allows the Association to bring together hundreds
    of professional and student members,

    Developing Dynamic Interviewing Skills, Dress for
    Success, and Transitioning from College Student
    to Business Professional
