Getting Ready
  • Power Point is a series of slides or screens
    that advance as you press the space bar.
  • It is useful for presenting information point by
    point using multiple modalities.

  • A Power Point presentation can be very simple or
    very elaborate. The designer can add
  • Sound
  • Pictures
  • Movies
  • Links to the Internet or other files

  • When you have a topic that you want to present
    with a Power Point, start by making a list of
    items to address or by making an outline.
  • When you have your ideas in mind or down on
    paper, you are ready to get started.

  • When you open Power Point you will be asked
    whether to open an new presentation or an
    existing one. Choose blank this time, and
    click OK.

  • Next, you will be asked to select a format. If
    it is not already visible, click on the
    Presentation Designs tab.

  • Select an appropriate backgound and click OK.

  • Next you will be asked to choose a slide format.

  • Choose the slide appropriate for your use. Click
    OK.

  • After you have typed in your title, you will need
    a new slide. Click on the new slide icon and
    select the appropriate format. You may continue
    in this manner until the end.

  • When you have completed your presentation, go
    back to the first slide.
  • Click on the Slide Show icon.
  • Press the space bar to advance the presentation.

  • In most ways, Power Point behaves like a word
    processor.
  • The user can cut and paste from Word documents
    and web pages.
  • The user inserts pictures in the same way.

  • Now, take a few minutes to think of a topic--a
    hobby, something you care a lot about, a book you
    have read.
  • Jot down five or six things you would like to say
    about the topic.
  • Think of a title.
  • Type your title into the Power Point you already
    have started or begin a new one.

    information entered.
  • If at any time you want to see what your
    presentation looks like, choose Slide Show

    No effect to select the animation you want.
    Click on Preview if you want to see it before you
    click OK.

    have a graphic, be sure to look at the animation
    order window.

    next few weeks.
  • Make an outline of what you would like to present
    to your class.
  • Create a presentation with 8 - 10 slides.

    folder. (review)
  • Be prepared to share your presentation with the
    group by 115.
