1The IR in the Digital Library

- Repository Manager

2Aims
- Defining digital repositories
- Explore the different flavours of repositories
- The repository ecosystem
- Some thoughts on the future
3A repository is.
- .a set of services that a university offers to
the members of its community for the management
and dissemination of digital materials created by
the institution and its community members. - Lynch, 2003

4What factors define a repository?

- Content
- (Text-based objects/

- - Motivation
- (Dissemination,
- Preservation,
- Management)
- Patronage

14Repository ecosystems
- Embryonic stage- no standard model
- Many different manifestations of IRs- confusing!
- No so much The Matrix (seamless
interoperability), but more like The Matrices. - Mostly overcome the technological problems, now
we have to develop user communities.
15Questions
- How will IRs be integrated into digital
libraries? - How will IRs interact with other repositories?
- How do we build up a user community?
