- Slide - one page of a presentation, can be set up
to be an OHT, 35mm slide, - Object - charts, pictures, text box etc
- View - how you look at your presentation slide
view, outline view, notes pages view and slide
sorter view - Slide show - displays slides in sequence on your
computer

6To Start
- Open PowerPoint
- Click on Design Template (Background), OK, use
arrow keys to view the designs, click on OK when
you choose one - Choose a layout for your first slide
- Click in box, and type in information
- If necessary Change font, size colour as in
Word-processing
7- To get a new slide click on common tasks OR go to
Insert New Slide, choose slide layout and
continue - To change template (background) or layout of
slide go to Format menu - To add Pictures, Word Art, Movies, Animation,
Sounds etc go to Insert
8Word Art and Drawing
- Insert, Object, Scroll to Microsoft Word Art
(Wait) - Type in text, choose shape of text, font, size
etc, Preview, OK, drag text into place - Draw menu enables you to change to order and
shape of drawing objects

As Educators we deal with Numeracy, Literacy
Graphicacy Eg Lite is a graphicacy issue not a
literacy issue

12Making it easy to read
- Repetition - repeat colour, shape, size etc to
help develop unity - Alignment - visually contact each element on the
page - Proximity - items relating to each other should
be group close together.

Use conflict - 2 or more similar fonts Contrast
- if the elements of size, colour, weight, etc
are not the same, then make them very different

16Tips
- Dont use all the different style options eg
bold, italic, colour, size, fonts, shadow. If
you mix more than 3 it is difficult to read - Size Matters When working in Slide view you are
seeing the slide half sized. You shouldn't put
so much text on a slide you have to dramatically
reduce the size - Have something to say. Spend your time on the
content and not the effects of your presentation

18Using Word, Excel etc
Windows has a built-in set of copying and pasting
tools that make it easy to pull information out
of a document, no matter what program you created
them in, and put them into you presentation
19Transitions
- A transition is the method used to move from 1
slide to another. - Go to Slide Show, Slide Transition
- Choose effect, method of advancement and any
sound which you wish to hear during the
transition. - Preview will occur as you make choices, Apply to
all - Observe the transition before and after this slide
20Adding, Deleting Ordering Slides
- To add a slide, go to Insert, New Slide, Choose a
layout and hit OK - To delete a slide, go to Edit, Delete Slide
- To change to sequence, go to Slide Sorter click
and drag slides
21Adding Animation with Sound
- Choose the object you want the sound or animation
to be with - Go to Slide Show, Custom Animation
- Choose the Effect (eg swivel), Order and Timing
(eg Automatic) - Preview and OK
- Other effects can be made by Selecting text, go
to Slide Show, Preset Animations and choose
effect (eg typewriter)
22Adding Video and Sound
- Video and sound can be inserted from a CD or
downloaded from the Internet - Video files must be saved with your presentation
on your hard drive or must be available on CD
when you run the presentation
23- Insert, Movies and sound, find picture from clip
art, CD or net - Select movie, Slideshow, Custom animation, click
animation - Go to play settings, Options, select choice,
preview and OK
24- Pre-record your voice Start, Programs,
Accessories, Multimedia, Sound Recorder - to
include sound files that can be attached to text
or pictures - Recorded sound or inserted sound in PowerPoint
shows as an icon on the slide.

- Action Buttons Click on Slideshow, Action
Buttons and choose the button that suits your
purpose e.g. home icon to go to first slide - Hyperlinks Select text, Insert, Hyperlink,
Select Slide

- When starting PowerPoint choice this option where
you chose the colours, fonts etc without the
Design Template - Go to format, background, colour bar or down
arrow to fill effects or more colours - Select colour or texture, OK, Apply to all
- Type in text and change fonts etc as per
word-processing

- Use the Slide Show view, or Slide Show, View
from menus - To move from one slide to the next press the
spacebar or click on the mouse - Writing on Slide right mouse click (Hidden
Menu), select Pointer Options and Pen - To End right mouse click, End Show OR Esc

- Go to File, Print
- Choose which slides to print
- Choose what to print
- Slides 1 slide per page
- Handouts choose how many miniature slides per
page - Notes Pages 1 slide at the top of each page
with Speakers Notes - Outline prints text outline

- Showing students work to parents and the
community at Open Days/Parent Nights - Advertisements or commercial
