• a division of civil (or private) law.
• a tort is harm caused to a person or property
  for which law provides a civil remedy
• intended to compensate victims.
• divided into unintentional and intentional torts

• Tort law deals with aspects of life which
  surround us everyday such as property,
  possessions, reputation, automobiles, etc.
• Sometimes a person may be charged through both
  criminal law and tort law
• Although primarily used to compensate victims,
  tort law is sometimes used as a form of
  punishment or deterrence.
