What is benchmarking?

• An attempt to find the best practices used by
  others in business that will lead to superior
  performance in WHP.
• Dont limit yourself to only the WHP industry
  (industry-based approach) or to the typical roles
  played by WHP professionals (function approach).
• Instead, look for practices that will enable your
  company to leapfrog over the competition and
  greatly increase productivity.

Benchmarking How to

• Step 1 Review what youre trying to improve,
  examine SWOTs, and define your stakeholders. Make
  major improvements in your weakest area(s).
• Step 2 Establish a needs and a benchmarking
  team. The first will examine the factors needed
  for success where benchmarking is most essential
  while the second will develop operational
  definitions for the factors developed by the
  needs team.

Benchmarking How to

• Step 3 Establish partners inside, but especially
  outside, the WHP unit.
• Complete the benchmarks
• Internal (example KINS)
• Competitive (examples Glenwood, St. Francis,
  MAC, etc.)
• Functional (example C. Everett Koop )
• Best-in-class generic (example EEOC)
• Step 4 Collect and analyze data with the
  intention of establishing a performance gap.
• Step 5 Take Action!
