• Montessori at Mountain School offers a
  traditional Montessori program serving children
  from three through six in multi-age classrooms.

Multi-Age Classrooms

• Multi-age classrooms provide both academic

  ages. Montessori at Mountain School rests on a
  long tradition of successful multi-age
  instruction.

Long Work Cycle

• The long work cycle in Montessori at
  Mountain Schools classrooms allows children to
  develop important learning dispositions,
  including concentration, the ability to select
  and complete work independently and a love of
  work well done. There is no hurry!

Daily Schedule

• The school offers a choice of daily program,
  with the Montessori Primary Program operating
  during the morning for all students. Optional
  afternoon programs offer arts and cultural
  activities in the Enrichment Program and
  additional Montessori programming in the Extended
  Day Program.

  sequential language activities and hands-on
  materials.

• The sensorial curriculum supports discrimination
  of the senses and introduces precise vocabulary,
  terms of comparison and concepts related to math
  and geometry.

• Montessori at Mountain School's math curriculum
  supports children's natural interest and delight
  in math and provides a strong foundation in
  numeracy through the use of specially designed,
  hands-on/minds-on math materials.

• The cultural curriculum includes aspects of
  physical and cultural geography, science, art and
  the manifold cultural expressions of people from
  around the globe.

Enrichment Program

• The enrichment program offers afternoon arts and
  activities to support the cultural curriculum.
  Visiting specialists and teachers provide
  inspired instruction from a rotating palette of
  art, music, dance, drama, creative movement,
  cooking, yoga, puppetry and storytelling.

Extended Day Program

• Older children enjoy an enrichment activity
  followed by a special time with one of their
  teachers for advanced lessons and time to work
  independently with the Montessori materials.

The Kindergarten Year

• The year from five to six is an important one,
  where the classrooms oldest children are leaders
  in their community. It is the crown of the three
  year Montessori primary cycle when much of the
  childs early learning becomes integrated.

Parent Life

• Parents are active in the life of the school
  and there are lots of opportunities to volunteer,
  including as a Literacy Support volunteer or as
  part of the Visitor Program.

Literacy Support

• Parents and older children from the Mountain
  School participate in the literacy support
  program.

Visitor Program

• Parents and local specialists visit the
  classrooms to support the cultural curriculum and
  enliven the schools enrichment offerings.
